So, 19th March GDC Nvidia Key Note

Prices direct from Nv stayed the same, some of the retailers are/were offering pre order prices at the MSRP, but most are just gouging.

People make you laugh, they will cry and cry about the price but they will still buy one from a retailer that is pulling their pants down.

Depends if you want an FE card or aftermarket cooler... the coolers from the likes of EVGA & Aorus are really good.

But I'll be watercooling... so may buy direct from NV... will see what's on offer.

I don't want to buy direct from NVIDIA. Digital River are terrible, and frankly I'd rather give OCUK, or any UK etailer for that matter, my money.

This ^

Digital River customer service is total rubbish.

If you want to get in touch with them use carrier pigeon as you will probably get a faster response than email.

Presumably all those crying about the current price gouging of retailers on the back of mining will be boycotting OCUK and the rest for these new cards?

I won’t bother buying one if the prices don’t come back down. Put aside £600 months ago and have now accumulated >£1K in the GPU fund while waiting but there’s no chance of me spending that much on a GPU.

I’ll stick with my PS4 Pro and RX480 PC if nothing changes after the next Nvidia launch.

If they don't launch at the same $ as the 10 series (give or take 5%) then I won't be buying from anywhere.

Judging by your posts here and in the GPU price thread, you seem to take delight in the fact many gamers are being priced out of their hobby

I'm thinking 20xx series will be the name (more likely that 11xx series anyhow).

2070 for £400 to £480 (Asus sticker £550).

2080 for £600 to £700 (Asus sticker £750).

2060 some time later for £330 to £400.

2050 for £250.

A bag of nVidia branded peanuts with a fan strapped to it £150.

Why would it be 20xx rather than 11xx? they have been consistent in their numbers all the way up, why would they suddenly skip 9 digits and go to 20?

Marketing/psychology.

10 to 11 is a smaller jump than from 10 to 20. 1080 is more similar to 1180. 1080 is less similar to 2080.

The leading digit catches the eye. 10xxxx 11xxxx 12xxxx 13xxxx 20xxxx 30xxxx 40xxxx

That would completely go against their naming scheme. For example GTX 480, 4 is the generation of the card, 580, 5th generation, 1080 - 10 is the tenth generation etc. The logical thing would be 11 as it's the 11th generation of cards.

They have never just picked random numbers before. What would the 20 mean? it's not 20 years in business, it's not their 20 generation of cards.

Maybe you are right but I just don't see it happening.

Sounds like rubbish. Why would they cripple their biggest market?

Your source in cape town what does he do for a living?

What makes you think it's their biggest market? It's not. Not to mention if it was, they'd be making ASICs,too. Crypto is too volatile to be putting your eggs in one basket, which is exactly what you'd be doing if you compromised other workload performance for mining.

Quickly losing enthusiasm - I've got a fair bit of money saved away for a new build once 8 core 16 thread Intel CPUs are a little more reasonably priced but I'm loath to basically throw a bunch of money away on top of the GPU price because of mining :s

To be honest, my 980 ref that I’ve had since launch is doing great. I did briefly look at an EVGA 1080, but it had been out so long it seemed silly investing in it.
