The VW UP Gti - What do we all think?

Must admit I'm tempted to grab a test drive, finance deals on these are great, and it would be perfect for the driving I do which is 90% a combination of town and B-Road bashing...

The only thing is that I'm pretty sure I couldn't keep the same car for 2 / 3 / 4 years.

But I'll take one in tungsten silver with a black roof, climate, audio upgrade, extended warranty, and the cruise pack... If anyones offering! ;)

He he... Nice one.:):)

Personally I like them and one would actually suit my needs very well now. Are there any discounts to be had and what are the waiting times like?

A bit, I'm trading in a vehicle so bit harder, but I went in with some figures in my head knowing if they could hit them, I'd sign up, and they hit them :)

Went with red and black roof, cruise control pack (with parking sensors) and city emergancy braking pack (with rain and light sensors)

That the Tornado red? I know it's a really old Vdub colour but it still looks good.

Yeah, it's the "basic" colour, but can have option of black roof which is like £125. I just don't like white cars, and the black and silver just look a bit boring to me. Shame they've not done some more blues. But if I ever wrap the car I'd go matte red, hence going red!

saw one of these parked up in the next village over while on my way to work this afternoon, was cool, but must admit on approach i thought it was one of those sporty trim level Citygo or in fact one of the sporty trims from the normal UP until i drove passed and saw the gti badge, so while it might be a pretty nippy fun car to drive, doesnt look exactly GTI special from the outside, as i say just seems like a normal car with a sporty look.

When has a VW GTI ever looked more than a 'normal car with a sporty look'? (lets avoid the obvious concepts like the W12 :p)

the mk5 golf onwards you can tell a difference, the mk3 you could too because there wasnt much trim choice, the mk4 looked boring outside the R32, so other than certain alloy wheel type, you couldnt really tell.

lol same, very tempted by one but I'd struggle to keep it for 3 years.

hence the want for lexus is250..

Some relatively inexpensive PCP deals direct from VW already. £3300 down and £130 a month for 4 years.

NB. I haven't looked elsewhere and nor is this necessarily ridiculous cheap, but I thought it low enough to warrant mentioning...

Stage 1 I'd say 140ish :D

I don't think you're far off, but that sounds a tad on the optimistic side. 115 to 140, would be a 22% jump in power. Also the engine looks like it starts out at circa 90 in standard form, so has already been tweaked (assuming the 90 version isn't a strangled 115) I'd have thought 125-130 would keep the car reliable. Be interesting to see. I can't find any numbers on re-maps yet for the 1.0Tsi

Yea just guess-a-mating.

1.0Tsi stage one takes the 110 to 130 so that's 20% increase, so Up! 115 more realisticly would be 135 so not a million miles away from 140 (not a few bolt ons couldn't sort out :D)

Why anyone would want this lifeless VW turd, when you can have a Suzuki Swift Sport for the same price, which is a vastly better package.

Yeah, just doing the same. I'm sure it won't be long before the re-maps come thick and fast. I like it, it looks a decent enough little car (I like little cars anyway) I think the waiting list is going to be growing by the day. One in Tornado red with glass roof would do me nicely...:):)

How do they compare on size, price and performance? 113hp in something under a ton won't be lifeless with me at the wheel :D Each to their own, but the Swift is too big for me (like DampDog, I love tiny cars, when I win the lottery friday I'll be getting one of those revamped old minis too)

Never taken to glass roofs; I suffer from glare at night and feel a glass roof won't help matters, and what happens if you get a chip in it?? I went for tornado red and black roof. Will be keeping it at stock for the first couple of services, then we'll see...
