I chose those examples because they are a pairing of unrelated characteristics. The former, not particularly. Presumably there’s a fair number of LGBT plumbers around? That said I’d hazard a guess that there are less societies in general in the plumbing community because of the nature of it.
The latter two examples, well I’d be surprised if there were enough people in those industries interested in those sort of things... Besides, they’re a little different to skin colour and sexual orientation.
A mud-wrestling pilot is a mud-wrestler and a pilot. He could go to either a mud-wrestling community or a pilots community and would be well served by each.
He wouldn't need a community specifically for mud-wrestling pilots.
Similarly, a LGBT plumber could visit a plumbing community or a LGBT community and be well-served by both. Why does there need to be a LGBT Plumber community which combines the two?
There is the problem. LGBT Plumber is a pairing of two totally unrelated characteristics. The plumbing aspect should have no bearing in his sexuality (innuendo aside
) and his sexuality should have no bearing on his trade as a plumber.Would LGBT people be better served by a LGBT plumber than a normal plumber? I guess that's the only angle I can think of, where LGBT people would prefer to exclusively get their services from other LGBT people.

I think once you start to consider someone's posting style and history it paints a picture which you won't see if you take particular posts and threads in isolation.
