So she could have just been trying to steal his mail.. At the end of the day the dog was secure behind a door and she thought it would be fine to reach in the letterbox. I hope it goes to court and she gets laughed at and booted out by the magistrate.

Does the dog attempt to bite when normal post is delivered day to day? No.

Would any judge think its reasonable to expect an owner to train a dog to ignore someone who is trying to stick their hands/arms into private properly through a secure door? No.

I would definitely be getting a letterbox cage now anyway to prevent anything malicious being posted when you're not in. If she's sueing she's clearly got a screw loose already.

Not buying it. I replaced the mystery woman with the OP and then substituted the roving hand for his penis. Suddenly this all makes a lot more sense and is in line with what is expect from a denizen of GD.

Nah, I still think random letterbox provides a more entertaining story. With glory hole it's a bit seedy, with a letterbox the OP is providing a public service, like a postman but instead of letters he's delivering knobs.

Which is fair, up until it's established that the dog's reaction is to bite. At that point it goes against the defendant.
Our dogs all react to things they haven't seen before - One runs away and hides, if she can, while the other two bounce up all friendly-like and enquire if there's any food involved.
Really though? If I found anyone with their hand/arm inside my letterbox they'd likely get it whacked by me. Too many people trying to fish for keys and things. Irrespective if technically they're not breaking the law it was a stupid thing to do.
Well.... One of ours drew blood of a few fingers. Our post service got temporarily suspended until a local RM supervisor came out and inspected our newly fitted letterbox cage.
Even they admitted it was the first time in decades they had to come out for a case of cat injury. They were pretty amused by it all to be fair.
Sounds like a nonsense case tbh.. some people quoting the law/dangerous dogs act etc... and criticising others are being a bit ironic when they themselves seem to have conflated a dog nipping at fingers when letters are posted and a dog attacking someone when an whole hand/arm comes through trying to scoop something up.

Once something is posted, that's it, it's not yours any more. If you post something in a postbox and then try to fish it back out, you will definitely get arrested if someone sees you.
If the dog didn't draw blood I don't think it would even be considered an injury, plus there's no proof. She would have to have gone to hospital and have medical records to back it up.
If it was a cat the injury probably would have been 10x worse and there is no "dangerous cat act". So what would she do then, she'd just look like a moron for sticking her hand through a letterbox.
