Far Cry 5 PC Performance Analysis (from Kitguru)

Farcry 5 benchmark tool is so good. Its helping me get more out of my Vega. each run is so consistent its easy to see the changes. @TonyTurbo78 I managing to get better results under volt here. Remember last time my core clock would just go low and memory would jump all over the place?

Am keeping P6 and HBM the same 900mv while P7 is 1100
HBM is running at 1025 and core 1637 on both gives me solid HMB speed 1025 and 1400/1500 core speed high 1400 all the time.

Game looks nice and play well but is way too linear and there is also no save game key? Why have they taken the option to save away from most games now, whats wrong with good old quick save and quick load?

FC5 doesn't scale at all with more CPU cores :eek:
No difference between a dual core with HT and hexa-core with HT?! :eek:

This game is not good.

Did you miss this part.

Far Cry 5 runs extremely well on even slower processors. It's also worth mentioning that reaching 144 FPS is possible with most processors.

If a game runs well and is Gpu bottlenecked is that not what we all want. Being Cpu limited means you are not getting the best from your gpu. In this case it looks like the gpu is being fully utilized which is surely what we all want. I couldn't care how many cores or threads is being used as long as the gpu is giving 100%. The fps in this game also appears to be good so i can't see the problem.

No, I don't accept it. More physical cores on the silicon should always be utilised in some ways for more performance. This game will run equally bad even if you throw at it 32-core / 64-thread future Ryzen Threadripper processor. Which is plain sad.
I understand why it is as it is.... To sell better :D

So, after about 4 hours playtime, I'd say it's shaping up to be one of the better FC games, much better than FC4 and Primal that's for sure. Having some good fun with the game so far.

I like the world that has been designed, looks bloody lovely maxed out at 1440, can only imagine how lovely it looks in 4k.
Performance is fantastic, out of the box it's probably the best performing FC game of the bunch
Gameplay is solid, character movement and gunplay feels on point.
Seems like a typical FC map, lots to do and places to go (thankfully no towers that unlock new areas of the map)
The characters are great, crazy but great. Maybe not quite Vas levels of greatness, but they are great to listen to.

Only thing I can really knock at the moment is the AI.

All in all, I'd say deserving of an 8/10 at the moment with the 4 hours played. Definitely feels like I'm going to enjoy putting a lot more hours into this one. I think Ubi might have launched a decent Far Cry for a change.
Cheers T and as I have nothing to play or can be bothered to play, I will grab it tomorrow :)

I think this is not correct, to begin with. Your GPU can still be used with 100% of its shaders, regardless if you run a single-core, dual-core or a deca-core, the problem is just that the game is made to run exclusively on GPU acceleration, without taking into account any other hardware you have in your case.

The point is the game seems to run well with good graphics. They are obviously running what they need to on the cpu side and the results are good. Would you rather the game ran at half the fps but made use of all your cpu cores/threads just so your cpu was getting utilized. They obviously didn't need to much Cpu grunt to get the game running good.

It doesn't even get steady 144 FPS, let alone 165 FPS or higher on Ultra 1080p. This is not what I call runs well.

It's nice to see a Far Cry benchmark again, I still use FC2's on occasion as it makes even the wimpiest of cards look good :D

I remember the good old days of Farcry 1. My housemate went out and got a Geforce fx5600 or something, fired up Farcry and boom! 5-10fps average lol

165fps for a brand new game, dream on

Someone on Reddit brings in a strong point and its something I have said a lot around here. Look at the min frame rates.
Am stating facts here! They is no denying anything when AMD work on a game EVERYONE is a winner! When Nvidia work on a game Everyone is a looser! Even the Gameworks effects hurt Nvidia users for very little image quality.

Yup, that's what happens if a game gets API / dev support by a company like AMD. And not stuffed with GameWorks effects..

2 years later ... more visual effects... open world... and the FPS are HIGHER on the same cards than the previous title:

http://gamegpu.com/images/stories/Test_GPU/Action/Far_Cry_Primal/test/new/fcp_1920.jpg

It just tells you that Nvidia destroys games when they work together with the devs and AMD makes it a good experience on ALL cards... high FPS...

And it shows the true power of all cards. If you have NV sponsored games you see interesting funny things happen in the rankings...

It was Farcry 4 that was a GameWorks title, i think.

Your points about the newer game running better than the old game stil sort of stand (not for the 290 or 480 (I think). But now we can't blame GameWorks, so what do we blame? Ubisoft devs? Does that mean we blame them for the issues with Ubisoft games and GameWorks instead of (just) GameWorks?
Maybe GameWorks isn't always the only problem?

Anyone with a Titan V that can run this please? Would be interesting to see if it'll take advantage of the FP16 for rendering like Vega does.

Performance looks good but not sure I can do another Far Cry game. Only played roughly 3 hours of Far Cry 4 before feeling I have been there and done it before, so doubt I will pick this up
The story and characters in FC4 were so lame though - absent a cool story to suck you in, it's going to be hard to become immersed. Far Cry 3 was awesome in that respect, the plot and characters were classy stuff! If FC5 is a return to that kind of form then it will likely by a great game.

Found a video of Titan V at 4K for this. Nearly 50% faster on minimums than the Reference 1080Ti when looking at Hardware Unboxed results

Min = 65
Avg = 72
Max = 81

They can't. FP16 rendering is included via shader intrinsincs and not through Direct X. It's AMD exclusive.

But even if it would be made with DX12, TV couldn't use it, as Titan Vs FP16 rendering isn't exposed in Nvs drivers at the moment. Titan V can only render FP16 in CUDA so far.

This is the same old game engine having been used for a decade, perhaps. This game is worse than Crysis 3.
