This 'sugar tax' crap is doing my head in!

It is entirely the customers fault. It is common knowledge that eating McDonald's etc is unhealthy.

This is why an NHS style medical system is terrible, it discourages personal responsibility.

One thing I know for a fact is fizzy drinks with loads of sugar in does not make me put on weight..

I lived on about 30 to 40 cans of Coca-Cola per week for many years and my weight is still between 9 1/2 and 10 stone..

So I called this sugar Tax BS

Yea, because that American system of private insurance or limited to no medical cover at all has led to a nation of healthy slim people...

Not sure how you get to blame the NHS for the obesity crisis.

What a false dichotomy. Look at the Japanese medical system. Where did I blame the NHS for obesity? Oh that's right I didn't

liked the ironic post - roll on diabetes ?

form the earlier quote
The impact of sugar on diabetes was independent of sedentary behavior and alcohol use, and the effect was modified but not confounded by obesity or overweight.

Honestly man half your posts read like they're composed by Cathy Newman

Lots of people have smoked for many years and don't have (apparent) lung cancer.

Shame people can't take a jot of responsibility for themselves. I do enjoy a can of ice cold Coke of a summer afternoon. Very seldomly though, now I have to pay more which, while not the end of the world, is a bit pants tbh

With smokers, the price hikes impacted a targeted sector - people who smoke. So 16% of the population or whatever.

Not everyone smokes and for those who do - smokers (as an ex smoker myself) just knew that its only going to get worse and through addiction, accepted the hikes.

Anyway. You buy a chocolate bar (Mars, Snickers) the size has been reduced but the price has not? The same with biscuits, crisps (200 gram packets are now 150) for the same price? Call me naive, presumably profit and cutting corners. Now we have a tax on fizzy drinks.

Whilst I don't drink fizzy drinks, everyone who can drink in moderation, just gets penalised. Will this tax make one jot of difference?

I'm sorry I don't think it will. The companies should do more to research to reduce the amount of sugar (and not apply substitutes) but the buck stops with the parents and common sense.

Best have your credit card ready when you call an ambulance. No card no ride!

Subservient Brits rolling over and accepting like good dogs.

I spent all day wandering around catford and lewisham and I was the only obese person I saw.

I really have nothing to add, just so glad I don't live in this backward thinking, Tory craphole. The only good thing about London is the almost unlimited choice on food and drink options.

For sure, the fat shaming is just a cover, in reality it’s obviously just a revenue source for the gov. I doubt they will reinvest all of it into slimming classes and food education.

Pretty much my thoughts too, it’s just a sham to tax people more and I saw on the news yesterday they have already had to revise how much money they’ll take from the tax scam, sorry, “scheme”.

I mainly drank Pepsi MAX as a quick and easy drink, I stopped after Brexit put the price up 29%. It's sugar free so shouldn't get taxed. I mostly drink coffee or water now. I prefer tea but like most can't be arsed with the brewing.
