Pro Cycling Discussion 2018

We were drinking on the streets of Roubaix when he cycled past. He got a big cheer from us when we realised he was a pro coming in.
Pretty sure he was weaving in and out of cars as the streets were open by then.

Amazing resolve, fair play to him! Kudos!

Love the video, him actually having to jump up on the tow truck and retrieve his own spare wheel from inside the team car! :D

What's next? Amstel then Liege-Bastogne-Liege?

Dilliers Paris Roubaix on Strava.

Bouhanni digging himself a hole! Been a while since he got any results and sounds like he's not got the fitness and form to change that.

Several reports saying that Goolaerts suffered heart attack before crashing. Wellens dedicated a win this week to him and Van Aert seems to have been badly hit by it as he's the same age and they grew up competing against each other. :(

Jungels. What a machine! Well deserved win and good to see him up there with a result, probably his biggest win to date?

Was a really good race in the end compared to usual LBL, Jungels thoroughly deserved it and the tactics used to restrict movistar played out perfectly. Glad to see Alaphillipe win last week in Fleche Wallone mainly so Valverde couldn't!

QS have had such a good classics season that has been promised for the last few years but never delivered, will be interesting to see how they fair in the GT's, don't see them getting close to a win but should be able to place a couple of top 5s with their squad.

Tim Wellens was very strong too, shame none of his attempts stuck and that he was riding for whatevertheotherguysnamewas!

Are you talking about Jelle Vanendert? Vanendert was supposed to be riding for Wellens I think as there was a bust up after the race as Vanendert just took off and left Wellens behind.

Been watching the tour de Romandie. Geraint Thomas should just give up any idea he should be leader for a grand tour, he just isn’t good enough. Egan Bernal is showing him up and will be a serious GT contender before long.

Agree on both. I wish G would go for classics instead. Bernal has a Vo2 over 90 apparently

Yeah that's him! If he was riding for Wellens then I'm not sure what Wellens was playing about at, he must've attacked hard 3-4 times? Hadn't heard about the bust up.

Have to agree. The last couple of years it really feels like he's 'trying too hard' to be a leader, his racing isn't very natural (like it used to be) and he seems to be riding very defensively.

I'm only on stage 2 or 3 of Romandie atm I think. Seen his face once or twice but Bernal is looking far more impressive. Good to see Omar Frailie take a stage in Astana colours. DD where silly to let him go! Also always great to see Thomas de Gendt pull one off as well! :D

Astana always gonna Astana.

Although to be fair wasn't it during his time there (2014/15?) that several other Astana riders where caught? They don't exactly have a very clean record but I bet we'll hear hardly anything about it while everyone continues to blast Sky...

Professional opinion giver :P

Thoughts/hopes/wishes for Giro? Part of me wants Froome to smash it, hold 3 GT titles, be cleared by the UCI/WADA. But then part of me also wants him to not win the TdF... Hmm!

Also Tour de Yorkshire started today, enjoyed it last year but no spoilers please as I'll be a day behind with my viewing lol. Hope Mark Crash-endish ends his run of bad luck! :o

Well what a race the TdY stage #1 was! Wow! Amazing when a breakaway makes it, some supreme effort and what a finish for the legend that is Harry Tanfield!

https://www.strava.com/activities/1548008332 - his power & HR data still showing!

Such a well deserved win, easily the strongest rider in the break doing a huge amount of work, that last 5k they where all on the rivet working hard together but Harry in a league of his own. Huge long pull until 600m to go then eases up, almost as if he's cooked it. Lots of looking around and a late sprint (into headwind) and he comes from the back to clearly take the win by a bike length (with enough time to get his arms in the air)!
