Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

Doing Rise at the moment, absolute helluva game, so will be getting this one, but im not paying £45 (up on Steam now for pre-purchase), so i'll wait for a price drop.

EDIT: Just read the PC Gamer article, not QTEs again :(, looks like a wait and see how it pans out.
 
I enjoyed the first 2 games so much that I won't be put off by others opinions or reviews - not that I pay reviews much heed these days anyway. QTEs don't really bother me either - the only game I played where I felt they were over done was Resident Evil 6 but then that game had many flaws although I have to admit to still I really enjoying the game.
 
The first game had some QTE's in the first 30 minutes or so which initially put me off bot then opened up nicely. Will hold off to begin with though!
 
Its weird that HDR never made it to PC ROTTR as Nixxes finished it over 2 years ago but PC never got it patched in. Instead the XB1X has it & it looks fantastic although you obviously need an expensive HDR enabled display to see it (HDR on PC is still a long way away from mainstream but default on XB1X now).
 
I loved the first one, then played Uncharted 4 on the PS4... Tried Rise and couldn't get on with it. Far too serious in comparison and very repetitive. The store in Uncharted was so awesome in comparison with proper puzzles and what have you. A real shame as Uncharted is console only :(
 
Loved the last couple of games, though Rise of the Tomb Raider lacked in the tombs. Needs to have more, and definitely more challenging like in the originals like Tomb Raider Underworld.

So I really have high hopes for this one. :)
 
Loved the last two.

As soon as I get get it for less than 20 notes I will do. I’ll even play it straight away, which is rare for me :p
 
I will wait for reviews personally before purchasing, could be another cash grab, getting sick of these constant releases every few years, tomb raider, hitman, the batman games were the same, deus ex possibly due another game soon, and they have very little innovation

The first one was using TressFX an open source hair tech developed by AMD and Square Enix AMD had the sponsor for Tomb Raider so they used the name "TressFX"
Nvidia sponsored Rise of the Tomb Raider and had Square Enix change the name to PureHair
It wasn't using Nvidia hairworks. Rise of the Tomb Riader used PureHair "AKA TressFX"

Why miss out on a game just because of someone else's opinion in a review?

I feel the new Tomb Raider's has been a step up, given us some of the best visuals, and some great story's that keep you interested. My only gripe, it needs more tombs that are more challenging.

As for the usual releases that you say need more innovation, why? I love Hitman, etc. They're good at delivering a solid storyline with some of the best visuals, so why not support their work?

I think what he's saying (and I agree to) is that it's pretty much the same game every time. With little to no change on the game other than different bad guys to chase down. Look at Far Cry for example, entirely a cash grab now and just an update to their engine each time with almost no difference in gameplay. No big developers are taking risks these days. People like CD Projekt Red are the only ones I can think of that are sticking to what they promise.

Indie developers (loose term these days) such as the guys behind Pillars of Eternity are where decent games lie now.

Afterall, over the last decade or 2 gaming has gone from a niche market to one of the largest forms of entertainment with it no longer having a stigma attached to it. Meaning AAA devs are just churning games out like butter with lower risk to profit ratio. Safer investments, less enjoyment on the gamer front.

So, depending on the reviewer, if it's a good one, they will state the concern that it is indeed another churned out game with no innovation. Saving him wasting $60 for something he may only play for an hour to realise it's what he feared. I do the same.

I've not bought a game upon release for a long time. I just don't see the point anymore. Anything that's got any form of 'hype' behind it is almost always an entire let down. Either with things like lootboxes/micro transactions or little depth to an otherwise pretty game. Take the new IP (HA) that Ubi (or is it EA?) are making, the one where you have mech suits and was showcased with actors playing it. You just know for a fact it will be a pile of **** with micro transactions, progression locked behind paywalls and little to no single player story of any form.

There is nothing that I'm excited for other than the new RDR and Cyberpunk 2077.
