Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

I actually forgot about this game as must have shelved it on STEAM at some point. Noticed at the weekend I'd only clocked 10 hours on it so installed it and fired it back up through the last few days. Completed the main story in 23 hours playtime with 75% side-quests done.

Have to say it's a rather impressive game both graphically and movement mechanics wise. And for once unlike in previous TR games, the camera did not get in the way. The puzzles were not difficult although there were seom frustrations with the quick jump segments with missing a platform during landslides etc but overall fine.

Ray Traced shadows are very nice indeed

DLSS in this game works quite well. It de-sharpens the image slightly but in some ways this looks good and in other ways not so much. It's still clear and had you not seen a side by side you'd never know the difference. The upshot with DLSS is the +15-20fps gain for me at 3440x1440 that allowed a vsync constant 60fps at 3440x1440 whereas with it off the average dropped due to busy scenes seeing drops to near 30fps at times.

My one complaint is the game sounds in this title. The guns and overall action sounds just didn't have any punch to them. I never felt immersed in the combat as the sounds lacked feedback when firing a gun etc.

The stealth mechanics were fantastic, the mud and hiding in the bushes against walls. I personally thought it was a fantastic game with a slightly darker story.

I think the game wasn't bad, I enjoyed my time with it. The story was mediocre obviously but the focus on exploration and actual tomb raiding was nice. I liked reading all the mythology bits. Pretty amazing graphics as well.

I'd say DLC is a must for this, the tombs provide some more variety and are generally pretty well done. Without them, the base game feels somewhat dry.

I got the complete edition half price some time ago, can't really complain.

DLSS in SotTR is the first version and not DLSS 2.0. It isn't very good and not too different from resolution scaling.

I wouldn't recommend using it.
