Upcoming Firefox 57 ("Quantum") is twice as fast as Firefox 52

Still getting this graphical corruption happening.

Hard to know if it's windows that's at fault or FF.

I am running an older HD6450 GPU and wondering if it's the older display drivers that's the issue.

Tempted to switch over to using the integrated graphics on my 3570k. :confused:

Or I buy a GT710 if it will be supported by Nvidia for a few years.

what type of web pages are you using when corruption happens ?
Problems I see seem to be related to utube or bion, OC forum itself , after sessions have been running several days,
The OC 'hover' thread op text, and quote menu, are unique amongst web sites i use, and maybe making an unusual graphic compositing demand
(I would like to know how to limit/clear postings bitmap cache too)

Usual browsing. Could be this forum as you mentioned.

Not running sessions for days tho. Last night PC was on for no more than an hour before I saw issues.
 
I have an even older 5670 on my work PC which runs FF fine. Using the 16.2.1 Crimson beta if that helps.

For now, we are investigating reports of battery usage and CPU's heating up on Macs. You can enable "Low Resolution mode" (https://support.apple.com/ht202471) for Firefox, which should help until we release a fix in Firefox itself.

As far as the 'blame' question, generally, firefox shouldn't be able to trigger a driver reset, except maybe by DOS attacking the driver (which obviously, we try to avoid, although a malicious website could potentially be conceived that might cause us to). So in general, yes, these are bugs in the driver, which is made more likely by the fact people report different results using different versions of the NVidia driver. Having said that, it's still possible that firefox is sending D3D commands that are technically not allowed or have 'undefined' behavior, we've seen those trigger driver resets in the past as well, on these there's blame to share, the driver shouldn't really reset on these, but Firefox shouldn't really be issueing them either. It's extremely hard to locate those illegal instructions though, as the driver reset will not occur synchronously with when the instructions are issued.

as I said I am not sure the xenforo forum software used on OC is guilt free, and will use grease monkey to supress the tooltips on threads... my hunch, wrt to unique features of OC versus other sites i use.

This talks about Nvidia yet have an older generation AMD card.
 
I just had an issue as soon as I double clicked the FF icon to open the browser screen goes black and flickers.

Then I seem to have corruption at the top of the browser window as I navigate form page to page.

I don't think the problem is vendor specific though seems random as to what hardware is and isn't affected. I don't have a huge amount of AMD stuff in use here but some of my older nVidia systems don't like FF 60.0.1 or .2.

Seems a weird one as with a bit more experimenting I found that I can fresh boot the system fine and no problems but once I get the crash or other issues I have to completely power down - not just restart or the system will BSOD again within an hour or so regardless of whether I start FF up again or not. Still not 100% sure if it is just down to FF or drivers or a combination of other software, etc. but definitely involves FF - rolling back to 60.0 and no problems whatsoever.

I'm not saying it is. But the drivers for my AMD card went legacy back in 2015. So if this is a hardware acceleration issue hopefully the Nvidia card with up-to-date drivers will function correctly.

This could even be a windows 10 thing as well. But even so, up-to-date video drivers should help.

TDR crashes yes and other graphical anomaly but not a BSOD.

When a developer configures their site to support https they do 2 things:
- accept web requests on port 443
- specify which ssl certificate will be used to encrypt the traffic

ssl certificates have different signature algorithms, click the https icon in your browser, you can view the certificate and its properties. E.g. OCUK's signature algorithm is PKCS #1 SHA-256 With RSA Encryption.

older algorithms are weaker and end up getting cracked, so they get replaced by newer algorithms as developers follow best practices. Old browsers don't know about new algorithms. New browsers stop supporting old algorithms.

so it's the classic - you should always install updates for your (browser) software for security reasons..

FF could feasibly cause a BSOD under some circumstances but that is the odd thing - if I have FF running I either get a black screen, monitor turning off or TDR but if I immediately restart the system it will BSOD on the desktop within an hour subsequently - if I fully power down and then restart it will sit at the desktop fine without BSOD but still randomly crashes out with FF running.

Definitely something related to FF 60.0.1 as I've been running the systems exhibiting that on 60.0 for a few days now without any problems.
