I'm sure there are some grains of truth in that, but personally I'd still take it with the mountain of salt that any WCCF article deserves.

I'd be surprised if AMD don't release some kind of parts this year, even if they are a basic die shrink or improved yield rebrand of existing parts (and no the RX5x0X parts don't count :))
This.

AMD will most likely work on the shrink and better power delivery.

A VEGA 64 with better efficiency at £350 or a VEGA 64 with 20% more performance at sub £500 I might bite.

Not going to happen though I bet

That's the real kicker, isn't it. I think a lot of people would be happy with the mental power requirements if the card was priced properly. What's the point paying near Ti money for a 1080 performer?

I just don't trust anything wccf ever says, period. That mantra hasn't really failed me yet lol

It would be a shame to see prices as they are but I don't think they will be returning to 7970/680 prices for top end cards :(

Actually, RX 580 current pricing is pretty much in line with that ^^^ and the former Radeon HD 4890 pricing before the HD 5870 launch.

But even if you think pricing is higher, then AMD has something in mind, too:

They'll be dumping HBM asap on gaming cards and just be used for AI/server parts, hence why we won't see a 7nm gaming Vega (or if we do, it'll be the last gaming HBM card from AMD!). It's a dead duck to anyone with their head screwed on, which Lisa whatsitface has.

Really?!
I have seen reports about Samsung working on cheap HBM for mass production.

They just need to make it. Much better compact cards with HBM than super long GDDR ones.

But 580 is not TOP tier card where 4870 6970 7970 ware. vega 64 is top tier card
580 is mid tier card init ?? same as 1070 is mid tier card for Ngreedia.

The real battle is for the mass market. The issue right now is that even the low end is fairly expensive. If AMD have any sense they'll be trying to make cards as fast as they can whilst keeping the price in the £150-£250 range.

The parts people on this forum are interested in are just a bonus but I even see enthusiasts balking at current prices. I don't see HBM2 helping being the price down. Hopefully the cost of memory will come down over the next year or so.

RX 580 is exactly what 4890/4870 were. RX Vega 64 is what 4870 X2 was.
6970 had also 6990 variant, 7970 also had 7990 variant (but these were slightly higher than the sweet spot).

RX 580 falls right into the old sweet spot strategy practiced by AMD.

Multi GPU versus Single GPU, also you're comparing the flagship AMD single GPU's to a mid range single GPU.

It's not even close to the same thing.

I'm not sure what's "sweet" about the 580 price point given that it was available in 290X's years and years ago.......

Bet they would make Vega 64x2 but case in pc would go on fire

580 is 290x performance from ALMOST 5 Years ago with 150 pound lower price....

Unfortunately, 580 isn't the top tier card. Considering prices of the Vega 64 blower were $500 for 10 mins before going up over $100 and 1080Ti is silly also, my point is valid.
