FIFA World Cup 2018 - Final [15 July] **spoilers**

he moved his hand towards the ball, he didn't have to but he did...
The question isn't whether he "had to" or not - he didn't have to jump he could have laid down instead :p

The issue is whether he a) deliberately handled the ball by b) moving his arms/hands in an unnatural way.

Indeed, you know the actual professionals who know the handball rule and particularly what is deemed “deliberate” now a days.
You know the meaning of the word controversial, yes? The ex-pros were lining up to call that decision a farce at half time.

We'll, I guess the fact that the better team doesn't always win is part of what gives football it's appeal.

I do love the comments from all the highly qualified international level referees we have on this forum.

Almost as good as the comments from the highly qualified international refs on the tv at half time

In terms of quality this hasn't been one of the better world cups, even if it has been entertaining. So many teams not turning up.

And this France team will be one of the worst winners.

Alan Shearer has the flimsiest grip on the Rules going, he changes his opinion on incidents on a weekly basis. And Gary Lineker keeps trotting out the deliberate line without quantifying what it actually means in terms of the guidance that the referees actually apply in making a decision.

It’s probably worth noting that the latest guidance was issued long after they had retired.
