Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

285 WATTS TDP

Lol :D

TDP and how hot it runs will magically not be an issue for Nvidia fans now :p

High watts probably bad news for mining also:)
That is not how it works to my knowledge. People have Vega Liquid’s running at around 150 watts for mining for example. Gamers OC and get them up to 750 watts when they set wattman to turbo!

Bloody gamers, torturing the cards. Never buy from gamers, always better to buy from miners... :p

I'm sure it will all be 'the cost of being the best graphics card' now.
Joking aside, if the performance is there I don't think people care about at least the TDP side of things. Heat can be managed. Nobody would have cared about the energy usage of Vega in gaming use (for example) if it was the same % faster (as power consumption) than NV's offerings. People however don't like higher energy use for lower performance :).
Vega cards were still pretty good, just not as gaming focused as NV's (IMO). Most of us buy a GPU for gaming only where Vega lagged behind considering the pretty decent specs.

I think because the Ti is being released at the same time. The cards will be

1060=2070
1070=2080
1080=2080 TI
1080TI=?

And with the sterling exchange rate bonfire expect worse than a 1:1 conversion to £... Think Gibbo said they need a 1.3 rate to get a 1:1 conversion (including VAT) and we are worse than that currently.

Seems to pass a lot of people by that US RRP doesn't include sales tax, whereas UK/European RRPs do.

Somewhat true, but if they make the purchase from a retailer outside their state, its tax free. Its a bizarre rule IMO, it encourages citizens to shop outside their state for better savings. If they had something similar to the EU regulation added a few years back where companies were obligated to pay the taxes for purchases from EU customers (meaning they're going to bill us if they're obligated to pay it), where previously non-physical goods simply passed through customs to be hit with tax charges... then US customers wouldnt have that loophole and could perhaps buy locally for less instead.
So they have a choice, order in-state and pay tax (which are somewhere around 8-12% last i looked a few years back) or use a retailer where you dont pay it. On a $800 purchase, even a low 8% tax is still a good chunk of money.

I do agree that UK/EU taxes are essentially what pushes the prices so close to the 1:1 ratio which infuriates people when they try and do a straight conversion of $-£ and feel ripped off at paying significantly more, but its not the manufacturers doing, its predominantly tax and then rounding the figure up to a pleasing marketing figure.

Awesome to see AMD competing very well in some applications. Shame it’s old tech now.

The more I read the less enamoured I am with the new series. Really feeling the urge to skip this generation and by the Aorus x7 dt v8 like I’d planned.
