The 2080 is rumoured to be 8% faster than 1080TI

the 2080TI nobody really knows to be frank everything else is just guess work or linear relationships assumed by some which we all know is not accurate to assume.

Yes, but the 1080Ti wasn't available when the 1080 came out, that's all I'm saying. If they release both these cards at the same time as rumours have suggested, most people will opt for that. If pricing is in line with rumours as well, a 1080Ti to 2080 is a really bad value proposition and probably worse than a 2080Ti would be... but we'll have to see what performance figures actually are first.

When is the last time nvidia released a card along with the ti variant? The ti generally comes months down the line, its been like that for the last couple of launches. I would have to question why that would suddenly change for this launch. Then they have to squeeze out another titan and "full" titan inbetween. They'll space these all out like always.

I’ll probably go for 2080 assuming it’s £600ish, I have a feeling that the 2080ti will be quite a bit more expensive. The price doesn’t normally scale with the increase in power at the top end of the graphics cards.

Not sure if I am having deja vu, but did we not go through this yesterday? Not sure if it was you. I recall saying that Nvidia never released a graphics card costing 1k called the Titan until they did. Things change depending on circumstances and potential profitably. We don’t know.

To my recollection they've never even ANNOUNCED a Ti variant at the same time, nevermind released one, so announcing it is unprecedented and would indicate they are changing their strategy this time. It has been suggested this could be due to 7nm making an appearance in 2019, so they do not need to stagger the launch, and will in fact want to get these GPUs out there sooner rather than later, clearing the way for 7nm in 2019. We'll find out for sure tmrw anyway when the Ti will be available, but I have a feeling it will be at the same time as the non-Ti, if not within a few weeks of it.

Wasn't me no. Things change but it's not like there's any current competition for the high end so they can (and probably will) take their time on releases.

It would be no surprise if they did this time. 7nm is not to far away so it's likely the top end gaming part apart from Titan will get the ti name. If the rumours hold up then this ti is also a 104 chip unlike previous models that were cut down full fat 102 chips. The ti usually comes around a year later and if they were to follow that strategy 7nm would be in play. Makes sense to me that they will go ahead and release the full range as early as possible this time round while giving the ti name to a chip that's not the top chip as Nvidia can do just about what suits them atm. They will probably sell more before 7nm is available just by sticking the ti name on the top 2080 part even if it is turing 104.

As I said, we don’t have all the data. They maybe looking to launch 7nm earlier than we think and want to get it out early for it to have a bigger sale window than usual. Many reasons they could have. One thing is for sure, if they do it, it is because it maximises their profits on this occasion.

It's probably because they were supposed to release this stuff ages ago but high stock levels of Pascal have delayed things. Presumably we will see a firesale of the remaining Pascal stuff sooner or later as there does seem to be a lot of 1080ti left in stock, not a surprise at the eyewatering prices they are up for.

My guess is it will be a release tomorrow with availability not long after. From memory that's how they have done it with most releases over the last few years.

On the surface it may appear that way, but the industry is clamouring for new GPU tech. The long gap between GPU releases has even been holding things up based on certain articles I've read, with other manufacturers holding back on releasing products. It makes sense... a new GPU release will trigger a flood of new builds, so that can impact any and every component. They want to maximise sales, so tying in a new release around the time of a new GPU release makes perfect sense. Not that this would explain a dual 2080/2080Ti launch, I think the reason for that is more likely to be down to the 7nm roadmap. All leaks to date suggest the 2080Ti is imminent anyway... by this tmrw we'll know for sure.

Thats exactly what wrote few pages back.
With 7nm looming this is similar to 8800GTX/GTX480 card. They looked great (compared to 7900, GTX280) the year they came out, but straight away superseded in less than a year with far better and cheaper products. (8800GT, 9800s, GTX580)
And that history also showed us how bad is to buy at the EOL of the node.
Vega also suffers from that effect, being designed for 7nm as we see from the Vega 20 MI25 card numbers. However in the case of Vega 10, it is a big leap from previous and isn't going to be replaced until 2019.

Yea i wanted to hold off on buying until 7nm but my PC died so just bit the bullet and replaced it all along with Vega 64. Tbh i ain't disappointed in the performance as it's still a good upgrade from what i had but in my mind i wanted to wait for 7nm to get the benefits that it will be bringing.

You can bet we will as it is a selling feature and another buzz detail. Nvidia know how to market and will be pushing it hard.

I'm thinking we might get something better... they might have some game devs or demos we haven't seen to date, more Metro stuff... who knows. I think they will recognise that pointless half pre-rendered demos of nothing aren't going to fool anyone and they want to people to be excited about actual games they are going to be able to play in the months ahead. At least I HOPE they recognise that fact anyway!

Yeah if shops already had them ready to ship there would already be lots of leaked benchmarks and photo's.

That is my plan. 7nm Zen 2 with a 7nm 3080Ti will be bliss and last me a long time
