Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Would it have been possible to have dedicated Ray Tracing cards that are separate from the normal GPUs in the same way a PhysX card used to be.

With NVLink being used now would the above have been possible.

This would have kept the die size and cost down on the main gaming GPU and left the choice and expense up to the end user as to if they wanted to use Ray Tracing.

Maybe the above is not practical....

Sure it's possible. But Nvidia want to lock in as many users as possible. Propriety tech being a bit of a thing, also this way they can charge double, and profits even better.

Even the Nvidia fanbois on wccftech are saying its not looking good. Now that I've never seen before. They would argue that black is white to defend nvidia.

I put 1k aside to get this or the note 9, none of which have made me spend it...

That said, without looking at gaming benchmarks it is madness. If it outperforms my 1080ti by a decent margin then i might just push the button. I do a lot of adobe work too, motion GFX, etc.. would be interested to know of the improvements as that might sway it for me...

Yup. The 2070 is going to be a fair bit slower than the 1080 Ti.

People in here just refusing to accept how much nV is trying to bend them over.

Some people like the latex glove treatment :p

I guess it would go the way of the physX card. At the time it was head and shoulders better than gane physics up to that moment. But it didn't really take off.
This way, i guess there will be more onboard as you'll get the physx card type crowd plus the gpu enthusiasts buy the rtx cards which i think will end up with a higher number than if it was a seperate card.

Nope I did see it and there is something wrong with the game been reading twitter and people who have been sharing pictures have been saying it looks really bad compared with rise of the tomb raider so not sure about that one anyhow not worried about raytracing that much if it add's something to a game then great more interested in performance increase in standard games.

I mean I need more fps in Skyrim !

To be fair, BFV is in Alpha at the moment. It still snows indoors ffs :p
Hahahha :D

Look at the positive side.

If people need 2-3 cards to get back to proper 1080p performance, let alone 2560x1440 or 4K, that means AMD will be selling Threadripper 2920X+ and X399 to all the Nvidia RTX customers......As no other platform would be able to provide the PCIe lanes needed for such setup.....

Hmm I see why AMD isn't hitting back with the 7nm Vega now.... Mass profiting from Nvidia customers....... That is a cunning plan Lisa Su....... :D
