Air Con Suggestions

Can the outdoor unit run another room later down the line if needed/wanted?
Not this particular outdoor unit, this is a one system unit, but you can get units that can service multiple rooms. I'm not sure how many, you'd need to check with the installer, but it should service at least 2/3 units afaik.

Alright cool, thanks! May do some research for next summer haha

My portable unit draws 850-900W at full load and this unit draws 120-180W at full load. Night and day difference.

My split was not costing me too much over the warmer period as these are VSD driven they are more efficent operating rather than full load then off!

Yeah that's good.

The weathers terrible at the moment so i barely need it on, but hopefully i get to put it through its paces on a really hot day before winter rolls in.

My home office gets hot anyway with several computers running, but until we have a scorcher (26c+ outside) it won't really get to stretch its legs.

It also helps when outisde is humid, had mine on the other day just to help remove the humidity from the house.

Hopefully we will hve a nice warm for you to stretch it legs :p

This year was the first time I used it in cooling as I only installed this last September, used it mostly in heatpump mode for the first few months.

Yeah i had the heat pipes installed as well (it was optional) but im not sure ill ever use it in heat mode as i previously had a fan on even in winter. Our house is a new build and it's really hot upstairs all year round pretty much thanks to the huge amounts of insulation in the loft.

Just relised you had images, install looks okay, did they use any trunking or steel tray for the pipe work?

They seem to go overboard wth insultation :p

No they didn't but i was told they would so i may bring that up with the director who came out to give me the quote. Other than that though, I'm happy with the work they did.

That installation looks great. I'm really hoping to get myself a dual split next year and fit it myself.
Word of warning if you don't have it professionally installed you may lose the warranty with the manufacturer.

I know this is a bit of a "How long is a piece of string?" question, but how much does it cost to use them? Like if you turned it on for 3-4 hours in the evening to cool down the bedroom in summer for example.

Ah - I did roughly work this out a few months back to give an idea once the unit had pulled the area down to temp I was pulling 2 amps ~ using an uncalibrated amp clamp on the main incommmer.

My house with the background lighting and tv ect pulls around 2.4 amps ~ with unit ticking over I was pulling 4.1 amps at full load I was at 8 amps.

I've set my Daikin on Eco mode and put the external unit on the quiet setting, coupled with the fan on the lowest/quiet setting and the unit is keeping my room cool at 21c. Power draw is about 70watts in this mode.

I'm very impressed.

Yeah I am quite aware of that, but the general consensus is that they're generally very very reliable units if looked after. Plus I have an F-gas certificate so I can save myself a fair chunk of money with a self-install.

Edit: The power draw of these units sounds very impressive. My Portable A/C does suck a lot of power.

Yeah the difference in power draw is huge. Most I've managed to pull at peak at maximum cooling/fan settings from the unit is 280-300W, but it seems to drop a bit lower once everything has fired up. Heating mode definitely draws more power, saw that spike to around 400-450W.

My portable AC peaks at 900W on the lowest AC setting.

I have been wondering this also. I like the idea of these units but I can already see the missus trying to out a block o it due to the ugly external unit

I'm also looking at portable AC unit, I appreciate split units are better, but it just isn't going to be practical in here.

I need it for my office room which is only 7.5 sqm (volume) I have seen this on Amazon:

Pifco P41008 3-in-1 Portable Air Conditioning Unit with Remote Control for Home and Office, White https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DMQPM2V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_X7oFCbXCGZ2CS

It will just about fit under my desk.
