Yeah kinda a frustrating omission, but as already mentioned it was fundamentally designed to be a performance to dollar phone for the Indian market where NFC is not really a big thing yet, and things like Netflix HD, NFC etc were amongst the corners that were cut to deliver what is fundamentally a very very solid device, and probably the best price to performance phone right now, as it mimics most of the core functionality of $500-600+ phones.
The MKB Review above basically virtually exactly mimics my thought process, the guy seems to follow my line in thinkings on phones a lot.
It's kinda like building a PC with the top core specs, but things like average screen, bog standard case, more average RAM etc have been used so corners have been cut, but most of the important components are good.
From the MIUI link above, it actually looks like they're investigating whether they can resolve the Widevine issue as well, which would make this an even better phone.
