Mixed sex!

It's mixed sex because there are several dozen genders these days, come on guys it is [current year].

I believe there are 71 genders on Facebook, that means there are 2485 possible combinations of couples with different genders.

I'm 47, 'sex' has always meant gender as well as sexual activity.
Do you think nothing, for instance, lesbians do together can aptly be called sex?

Precicely. Two women simply cannot have sex together. It's physically impossible. They can stimulate each other's organs, but there's a special word for that and it's called masturbation.

I'm confused, does mixed sex couples mean a man & a woman?

Yes, basicsly everyone can now get a civil partnership or a marriage.

Instead of gays getting partnerships and straights getting marriages.

Mixed sex seems a sensible term given it's in relation to same sex couples

The word they should have used is surely "heterosexual", but it's almost as if it's now taboo to promote or talk about any sort of heterosex.

What on earth is mixedsex I don't know what the heck.

It's the logical alternative to "same sex" couples.

Heck they are even trying to change the definition of "sex" when I was young it meant sexual intercourse,

Errr what? Sex in this context has always meant somones sex.

and now they are trying to change it so even masturbation counts as sex lol.

By "they" you mean you right?

Both your terms are incorrect as far as my English lessons go.

Never heard same sex or mixed sex before.

Replace "same sex" with homosex, and replace "mixed sex" with heterosex.

No need to change language.

Well no it's not as masturbation is done by yourself.

Depending on what Theyr e doing you could use a range of words though, cunnilingus springs to mind.

You have never heard of same sex couples before?
I'm sorry but either you've lived in a ******* cave for the past few decades or you're lying.

Also why would we replace two a very clear descriptor with the made up word "homosex"

Same sex couples is not a change in language its a common term that's been arpund longer than you are if specifically refers to a couple made up of two people of the same sex.

A "homosex" couple would be a weird change in language

It's the logical alternative to "same sex" couples.
But "same sex" is an illogical alternative to homosex. Therefore both phrases "same sex" and "mixed sex" are rendered illogical.

Yes just because the word has always meant something doesn't mean language doesn't evolve to add/associate other meanings.

Gay always meant happy, but then didn't they start calling homosexuals gay, and now we call homosex, same sex.

By "they" you mean you right?

? No. I'm not a sex doll salesman nor do I own shares in any such manufacturers. They are the ones pretending people can have sex in a room containing only ONE person. When all they're really doing is an extremely elaborate masturbation.

Not very sharp with linguistics are you?

I know homosex isn't a word. If you're referring to a couple you need to suffix it with "ual". As in homosexual couple. Not "homosex couple" lol of course that's not correct.

I'm not very sharp with linguistics because I dont correct your spelling for you? Fair enough

But you're arguing that we shouldn't change language...

Not sure how slang relates to more formal language here?

"Same sex couples" is a terms that's existed longer than you have been alive. Homosexual couples doesn't flow as well in conversation though. Gay flows even better though so guess which is used the most outside of media?

It's a complete waste of money. Most people at my college haven't even had any sort of sex yet, and don't plan to have sex until after marriage. And I assume it's the same for other schools and colleges around the area.

Sure thing buddy

It's not a spelling mistake, I'm using "homosex" to highlight the fact that "homo" is an ancient greek which means "SAME". Therefore literally saying "same sex" is just dumbing down English.

But it doesn't take many braincells to realise that you need to use "homosexual" when using the word in a phrase homosexual couple.

I was using it to highlight the importance of "homo".

Yes but use of the word homo to describe "same" has been around EVEN LONGER than that. lol.

'mixed sex'
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed-sex_education
'In the United Kingdom the official term is mixed, and today most schools are mixed.'

That's not concerning the children's sexuality though. Doesn't matter if the kid is gay or straight in a mixed school. When you're referring to a heterosexual or homosexual couple you're referring to the people, not some establishment.

According to your reasoning, kids in a mixed school will be assumed as heterosexual.

But all people in a homosexual relationship are certainly homosexual.

A school is not referred to as homosexual or heterosexual because it's an establishment, not a person with a sexuality. The people in a "same sex" relationship are homosexuals and the relationship is a homosexual one.

The word homosexual was coined in 1868.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality
- indicates the interchangeability of the terms same-sex and homosexual (along with other pages and articles).
A same-sex marriage would usually be homosexual in its nature, but it would be a same-sex marriage. You could have a marriage/partnership between two people of the same sex who identify themselves as heterosexual, and who would you be to say they weren't?
It is more useful and encompassing to officially use the term same-sex partnership, and as an analogue it seems to me that 'mixed sex' is appropriate.

'Mixed sex' in education is an example of that term in use. Of course it does not refer to sexuality, but it's a commonly used term and it is not difficult to understand. 'Mixed sex' is not some kind of Orwellian newspeak.

I don’t think I have ever heard of ‘mixed sex’ other than in relation to a group of people, or a couple, featuring willies AND vaginas.

I suppose I could go to a bar and then say I mixed sex on the beach with some wine.
