What film did you watch last night?

Over the weekend:

The life aquatic 6/10
Hmm, not quite sure what we actually watched here. It was ahhh, different :p Kind of watchable though and Bill Murray is always good.

Ant Man and the wasp 6/10
Typical Marvel fare to be honest and didn't expect anything else. Entertaining enough though and some really clever visuals.

Destination Wedding. Two grumpy middle aged singletons who have given up on love get stuck together at a destination wedding that neither of them want to be at. Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves (will those two ever stop being attractive?) spend the weekend snarking at each other as they try to out-do each other in the misery stakes. The whole film is them complaining/grumbling/talking to each other over several scenes during the course of the weekend, and some of it made me laugh out loud. The two leads are great, their chemistry makes the whole film work, and their two characters are pretty funny in an awful way. The stories and opinions they tell each other are great, but it is very much a study of two characters. The ending is predictable but satisfying. If you fancy a film where you listen to two people having a go at each other and everyone around them, with no car chases, gunfire or explosions, this is a nice little movie that takes a rom-com, pares it down to the minimum, and then turns it upside down. It reminds me of a sarcastic Lost In Translation.

yeh i really enjoyed this too, a bit different to the norm. :)

Saving private Ryan and swiftly followed by Band of Brothers.

Need a few good idea for war movies.

Where Eagles Dare is a great one, probably my most watched war film tbh. :)

edit, boom 1000 posts, took me long enough :P

Yeah it's a fantastic anime, loved the end song too. I mind being heavily into Samurai Spirits at the time and thinking the characters were a rip off of Samurai Spirits 2, however the Japanese release arrived before the SNK sequel so not sure who inspired who.

Obviously both were heavily influenced by Japanese folklore.

I love the Japanese art style from that era, even the 'average' ones from the 80s/90s are great to me. I'll have to check out Samurai Spirits. I can see the resemblance of Ninja Scroll to the Neo Geo game.

My wife and I watched Venom last night and, like others have commented, we expected a bit of a disaster but it was actually quite fun. The bad guy was a bit of a cliche but the Venom parts were fun. I'm not a comic fan so didn't get nerd-rage that they didn't film my expectations.

One thing that really jarred for me was the female lead. For a lot of the film she was running round in what my wife described as a "skirt from a sexy Catholic schoolgirl costume" and her hair looked "like a camgirl's wig". TBH, I think that nailed it pretty well. Got to love how my wife describes things too. :D

Final point, will someone please give Tom Hardy a throat lozenge!

As long as his gargling-with-marbles voice gets the ladies damp, aint nothin' gonna change.

Wife and I saw this the other night too. We enjoyed it as simply a fun film. The highlight was Tom Hardy and Venom interaction, the rest was pretty so-so. Between knowing little about Venom there was no issue with feeling they had ruined a char for me and also with all the bad opinions about it I had low expectations, so both these facts probably helped cause my more positive view of it.

The Greatest Showman - was expecting to hate this but stuck with it and really quite enjoyed it, some very dodgy ideas which distracted from the flow of it (the little person cast was taller than Tom Thumb who he was playing so he walked on his knees and they gave home some weird CGI legs!) but fun overall. 3/5

Venom. 7/10.

Thought it was good fun, the banter between Brock and venom was awesome.

Venom: "Jump out the window"

Brock: Takes elevator

Venom: "Pussy"

:D

A lot of bull**** has been said about this great movie. Too much criticism on Mel's production, while other overrated movies lately have been covered with slick reviews. I feel Apocalypto has everything in it: tribal violence, gore, typical Mayan philosophy, precise storyline...and the actors are really good. The FX are sensational and the director tells the Mayan story like it is, without any cheesy mysticism. Overall great movie. Ty Mel.

Watched Peppermint 2018, not seen Jennifer Garner in a movie for a while, pretty decent revenge movie, like a female John Wick, loads of bodies piled high also, the Mexican cartel boss was pretty cheesy though, all in all decent action pic 6.5/10

Age of Adaline

Was enjoyable enough. Don't think I've seen Blake Lively in anything else. She's great. Harrison Ford was also really good.
