Brutal driving rain and a block headwind from the south-south-east for me this morning. A real effort just to keep moving!

The cables now enter the frame just behind the headtube. I’m sure it works well for electrical shifting however it is a crap setup for mechanical, you end up with the cables looping above the stem and then they have undue sideways pressure from forcing the big loops and a tight turn after the bar tape.

Pro bike photo showing it will never look neat/good.

Have never liked that look. It's not too bad on TT frames as the cabling mess you get with aerobars it actually helps a little with, but on standard bars it really doesn't help for a tidy look at all. With the non standard stem I really wonder why they didn't do something there (which we've seen much more recently on newer frames). Even an integrated bars with a stem with side 'channels' in it would've looked better and routed better. While probably being more aero?!

Anyway, after all that rigmarole, brakes done, FD done, and the rear inner cable is too short, I can’t get a loop on the cable to bring it into the RD... I bought BBB inner cables however they are only 2m long. Whoever thought that was a good idea at BBB needs a slap, Sram ones are 2.2m, I ordered some from JE on Wednesday but don’t know if they have even shipped yet, hence buying the BBB yday as I wanted it finished.
Shame about your hood. It's always the little fiddly things like cables and such as always take the time and a faff waiting for delivery for bits with. I've seen the same short cable issue before with I think they were Clarks cables I bought to do a hybrid with.

uhoh, it sounds like you've got an ungrateful bike
:o :D

Looks good but I think you need a longer seat-tube.

I wanted my old frame to last me until we all had disc brake electric shifting at a reasonable price!
Builds up a Cervelo and is then worried about prices. :D:D:D
Yes, I know it was a warranty replacement! :P

Caught out by the ice this morning,
After a little accident, I've broken the head off my left femur off so I've had it wired & screwed back into place.
Hoping that does the job, otherwise is a full hip replacement later next year.

Looking at at least 6 months off the bike :(
Gutted for you Rob, that sounds utterly brutal! Hope the healing goes well and not too many other injures! Take care of yourself - the bike & riding can wait.

@Berger what's the saddle? Looks nice.

@Robzere31 Oh ****!! I came off this morning on the way to work and was just about to moan my knee and leg is killing, but now I'm grateful I could walk it off! Best of luck with recovery and hope you don't need to go full hip replacement route!

All the best on a full recovery. I broke my femur in a car accident years ago which was fixed with internal pin - have you got any external metalwork?

Think it's an Astute but could be wrong.

Glad it wasn't just me then. I felt a strong wind but hadn't rode for near enough two weeks so couldn't be sure if it was actually strong or just terrible legs. I thought a break from the bike might bring back some motivation but it hasn't yet.
Yup motivation is hard when it's windy. Or wet. Or cold. Just in general this time of year!

Doing any cross training, or just getting fat? :D

Ready for it... bet you can’t say this in one breath. The saddle is a Selle San Marco Aspide Carbon FX Protek.

I have more post showing than I may need in the end as I would rather move it down, than bring it up and risk scratching the section at the bottom. Will work on the fit when I have the gears finished. Tomorrow maybe.

And that sounds like a super nasty accident. Healing vibes!

So the caliper I got sent as replacement won't fit as I need post mount and the rs785 is on back order. Was looking at an SLX one to tide me over until it turns up. Then have the 785 as a spare. Presume this would work, or if anyone has any cheaper alternatives.

have one of my spare; I have two doing nothing.

5/10 quality (paint seems to have eroded away)
Missing the pin and snap ring (can get from wiggle)
Never used so cant confirm it will work 100%.
Has pads included.
Cost - postage only.

Just make sure to check the hose fitting is ok.

You have RS785 with a straight hose entry to the caliper and i think BH59 hose which is thicker.

R785 calipers use a factory fitted banjo fitting on the side.

SLX M7000 also uses a banjo fitting, deore M6000 is a at straight hose fitting but uses BH90 hose which is thinner. An M446 caliper uses straight fitting and BH59 hose but the pistons are different maybe... I've never tried it

Love this place, people are so friendly and if they can help out others with parts and that it's just so nice to see. Maybe I'm just feeling festive :D

This arrived and I managed to not get in the dog house. Winner! :D

Just in case kiteloopys one doesn't work out I bought mine from Bike24 when I upgraded to hydraulic, they were delivered within a couple of days to the UK. IIRC I paid around £35 each.

Thanks Jonny and Trox.

I knew it wouldn't be as simple as a straight swap. I thought BB Standards were bad but brakes seem even worse! :D
