What watch do you wear?

Was an interesting read about the whole Bremont deal...

I'll be honest, they made a one off design for work that was limited to people who worked there only, and it looked utterly awful. I think I know of one bloke who bought one and they were offered to us at half price.

Just had a quick look and it turns out their extremely rare collectors editions are just pumped out the moment anyone asks them to make one. Not sure what theyre thinking really.

Your design was most likely at the request of whoever organised it at your work.

I've seen worse, but it's almost entirely up to the project leader on the design. Some things they won't do, and they won't progress it until the project leader gets the 15 confirmed orders.
Breitling won't do anything less than 100 these days so for smaller squadrons, brigades etc they can't make that number work.

Agreed, but then at the price point nobody can afford to take a risk on them at that anyway. Like I say nobody I know has bought one of these apart from one, as theyre too highly priced for the looks.

We had a run of about 300 made in 2014 I think it was, just cheapo £100-£150 stainless steel jobbers but the look was good and I think pretty much everyone bought one as the styling was nice and subtle. Still see people wearing them as dailies today.

Obviously I'm not arguing that the quality was equivalent or anything, but most of us didn't think the Bremonts are 'special' enough to command the price they do.

My cousin is an ex AH64 pilot and has a custom Breitling Aerospace which I thought was pretty cool but a little subtle as Breitling has quite stringent guidelines on what you can do as all they could have was the insignia on the dial and engraving on the case back.

I think subtlety is key tbh, prob one of the reasons I don't like those ones, just smacks of look at me branding

Yup too much going on and pulling in too many directions with the GR everywhere, hazard counter balance and stuff.

That said things like their Kingsman looked great so they can get some things right design wise.

Not as bad as every Breitling ever made, ever. Man, they're just so awful. The Superocean might pass... but everything else looks horrific and like it came from a cracker! I don't get Breitling at all.

They are awful. Completely lost their way. I had a yellow dial sea wolf and sold it after a few weeks.

Some really expensive watches in here
I haven't owned a watch in years.. but found myself looking at SKA765P1 with the gold trims
Are Seiko still a decent brand? lol

What is it that makes these other watches worth so much more money?
not having a go, just a watch n00b, genuinely interested

Seiko are generally regarded as a great choice in the smaller budget category :)

Luxury watches are priced by their desirability.
A Rolex Daytona which sells for double list price (if you don't have a relationship with a Rolex Approved Dealer, approx £20k), is no more accurate than a Seiko costing less than £1k.
The high cost is linked to it's history (Paul Newman and Motor Racing) which makes it very desirable and with Rolex controlling the supply (very limited) adds to the frenzy around them.
