Yes, as I suspected that would have been preferred... although with the power of a few years hindsight wish he had declined ;)
 
Yes I did, both times, out of tradition I guess and respect.

Fat lot of good it did, twice divorced. :o :p
 
I did both times but I am old fashioned. First time around I asked my 1st wifes father and step father and they were rather touched that I had the respect to ask them. It would have saved me a lot of grief several years later if they said no!! I asked Mrs Pastymuncher mk2's father as well even though she had already been married, who then invited me in for a wee dram to celebrate. Very sadly he passed before we eventually married which was very sad as he and my dad were so alike.
 
I did - the whole wedding thing is a load of hokey traditions & so crazily emotive for all (the women) involved that its easier and simpler to play along :D

That being said I guess it very much depends on what you & your (potential) fiancee's views on these things are.
 
Nope. I had a good chat with both her mother and father (separately and in private) about my feelings towards her, but there was never a formal question.
