AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

16 gb or 32gb? Which ryzen are you using currently?

3466 at cl16 is very good in a ryzen system. I would be interested if someone runs 3600+ in a actual ryzen sys and/or with 32gb.
I red that 32gb are not possible with higher frequencys (3200+) dual rank is also much faster than single rank. This means 2x16 GB should be much faster than 4x 8gb. Unfortunately, patriot has only 16gb kits with 2x8gb, but I want 32gb :/

Dual channel has more bandwidth than single channel but each channel will have 2 slots. So 2x8Gb is one channel and 2x8Gb is the other channel. It's the same as having 2x16Gb.

Thx!
I always thought that dual channel is only (im most mobos) possible in A2 and B2?
But ok, this would erase one of my thoughts regarding the ryzen build

2 sticks may clock higher than 4 sticks though because you're relying on the quality of the silicon. You may have to reduce latency until it's stable.

When dual channel memory comes in pairs, it's tested at it's rated speeds (or memory from the same batch is tested at it's rated speeds). If you buy two separate pairs of dual channel memory, they haven't all been tested together.

I'm in the same boat. I mostly use my rig for gaming and photo editing, so I'm likely to see more benefit from an IPC and clock boost than from the extra cores. If it's a 10% IPC gain over the 2700, that's a 20% boost over the 1700. Assuming the 5ghz boost rumours are accurate, that should be doable as an all cores overclock, so I'm very interested!

Exactly, there is nothing wrong with my 1700 but i cant help but get a bit excited by it.

Only one of those sites mentions July and they all use the same "mid-year" source. Mid-year could mean anything from May to August realistically and the fact that they haven't committed to Q2 suggests they may not be confident in launching before July/August.

At this point I'd say it was obvious nothing is happening until July. I really don't see headline-grabbing, industry-first 7nm consumer CPUs with PCIe 4 launching without their intended and explicitly design motherboards. We've not seen anything to suggest the Computex reveal of X570 has changed, and that's not until June.

AMD know they have something big on their hands, hence this apparent extra time they're taking to get things tweaked and inventory to build up. Same I'd wager with X570 motherboards. AMD reveals their full desktop hand at Computex with full product availability in July (it's a shame 7th July is a Sunday).

Push Ryzen 3000 paired with proper X570 motherboards as a cohesive ecosystem, I'd say there was still an outside chance that Navi lands at the same time.

I have sold my 9900k as I am not gaming at the moment...Never do when the clocks go back....My new Dell G3 6/12 laptop is getting more use Might buy a 3700x In Sept :)

Look, as much as we tried to convince you that the 9900K was a terrible buy, we were only joking; you didn't have to sell the darned thing. :P

As an aside, did you make a profit on your sale?

I'm definitely on the list for one of these, will be interesting to see what Intel try as a counter, it's all about value versus performance - so if they can cut prices enough on 8 core+ parts it will be interesting to see what happens. Interesting times.

Part of me is worried that while Zen2 is going to be a great chip in its own right, it might not be able to live up to the hype, as some of the statements coming out are unrealistic IMO - especially with the Zen2 launch offerings, I think it will take a few months for all SKUs to make it to market. And a similar amount of time to see a good range of stable motherboards

It's definitely a massive unknown at this point. I feel it is being over-hyped a little bit, but at the same time I believe AMD has got something genuinely decent here.

TBF the only overhyping is by those who want a part. They aren't groundbreaking, but they are breaking the mould people got used to.

I think CPU's are going to be an interesting field of combat for the next 3-4yrs. Hopefully the profits can benefit RTG to bring a good competitor to Nvidia's lineup next year with Arcturus. GPU's are really holding up the game here ;)
