Gives an overview of what might be needed to host at Zandvoort. I can't say it particularly lends itself to F1 racing. However, would be another race within reach of Calais for Brits wanting a roadtrip to F1!

Would imagine the atmosphere will be good.

Completely nuts idea, Zandvoort is way too compact for a modern F1 race... I'd much rather they revert Hockenhiem to something very similar to the old forest layout, where we would get to see modern F1 cars running low downforce similar to Monza.

Last I checked the track was about as wide as a single track lane in some places?

Perfectly in keeping with modern F1 then. Since you can't pass outside of a DRS zone anyway, why have a wider track surface?

***edit***

Lap of the track from a test day Max Verstappen did for RBR a while back so you guys can see what MissChief is on about:

It is indeed quite tight in places. And the cars are wider than that RBR now. But like I say, they won't be passing outside of a DRS zone anyway so who cares? ;)

Not quite as bad as I remember but still not that wide.
Although watching it again the lens on the camera makes it look wider I think. The early part of the lap is quite narrow.

So I looked up the track details on the FIA website and the 'reference width' is 10 whatever that means. 10M I guess. Baku, Hockenheim and Marina Bay have reference widths of 9 and are still Grade 1 circuits so perhaps it won't be the impediment we expect but there still remains a lot of work and investment both on the circuit and elsewhere for it to work.

Channel hopping on tv and caught the W Series race at Hockenheim. Some thoughts:

1) Boy, did they ever ruin Hockenheim when they shortened it.
2) Seriously, it's awful.
3) Track prep looks somewhat lacking as well.
4) They ruined Hockenheim when they shortened it.

As for the racing...meh, seen better F3 races, seen worse ones. Still don't get what this series hopes to be or do. No other thoughts really. Oh, apart from one...boy, did they ever ruin Hockenheim when they shortened it.

It would be great to see F1 back at Zandvoort, an evocative name and history, but the circuit is a shadow of former self, like Hockenheim, Mexico City. :(

I never made Zandvort but would like to visit one day, fortunately was lucky to watch F1 at Hockenheim during its original nineties config - just epic. Cars would disappear into the forest for 3 mins, the noise...

Barcelona has history, I would rather one of the other 'far flung' races where F1 has little to no interest are dropped (Abu Dhabi).

A dutch friend of mine says the circuit facilities aren't really suitable for F1. Even if they plough load of money in, getting to the circuit will be an issue for an F1 size event as the roads can't cope. They'd end up busing everyone in TI Aida style probably.

It'd be like running the British GP at Oulton Park...

And the pits are tiny and haven’t changed since the 60’s. the whole place, infrastructure and transport links are woefully inadequate for an F1 race, least of all hosting one in 2020.

The track is glorious if a little narrow. 2 hours queues to get in/out for BTCC events and dilapidated 1960s shed type facilities (until recently) less so.

I'd be well up for an F1 race there, it's my local track...

Have to agree Hockenheim is dreadful now, I'd much rather see the German GP held at the Nurburgring.

Its a scandal that they were allowed to just rip up the old track sections - surely there was a better way to re-configure it.

Brazilian GP set to move from Interlagos?

The Brazilian President says a deal has been done to move the Grand Prix to a new purpose built circuit in Rio for 2020, albeit it appears the construction hasn't even started.
Would be a shame to see the race move, Interlagos always seems to produce exciting races!

I think Interlagos has had its time. The FIA are getting frustrated with security issues at São Paulo and other issues like drainage. Can’t see them having everything built in less than 18 months though.

Absolutely zero chance that it'll be built in 18 months. Just look at how long Austin took, and the Brazilian track record on the Olympics.

Agreed that Interlagos is at its expiry date but, security issues etc aside, it does feel like a track that could deliver some great races with the 2021 regulations, as opposed to the Tilke circuits with mega long straights.

This and liberty are all up for “destination” cities. Rio is one, São Paulo isn’t.

Shame really, Interlagos is a classic track.
