Admiral reckon any non-factory part on my car is a modification

As above, sounds like you might have been speaking to someone who's new to the role and they're going completely by the book/script.

I would be absolutely amazed if the insurance ombudsman sided with an insurance company because you failed to declare that you didn't have OEM wipers on.

Unless of course the non-standard wiper blades you used were noticeably inferior to the oem product and could have been a contributing factor to the claim...

INSCO's should be prohibited from voiding claims because "Modifications" unless the alleged "Modification" was a significant factor in the events leading up to the damage.

Actually, Compulsory insurance should be scrapped altogether. Motor insurance is pretty much the only private sector product that one is legally compelled to buy if you want to live a "Normal" life.

RTA aspects should be provided for by some other means (Historically schemes like this used fuel levies. But with the uptake of EV's and hybrids some other method will be necessary, perhaps an annual driving license fee?)

Insurance of the vehicle would then be optional and up to individual drivers. (Since almost all accidents are pretty much 50/50, people can chose to claim against thir own insurance for damage sustained or not as the case may be. A fund/appeals process should be available for those extremely rare cases where somebody is indeed genuinely blameless)

Except that you miss the entire concept of the way the insurance industry works with regards to risk. The mod isnt the risk, the driver is the risk. The fact that the driver has modified their car is then risk modelled. The modification itself is not the centre point of the risk at all, therefore whether the mod has anything to do with an accident is absolutely not the point.

It's funny as I'm fairly certain car manufacturers don't actually make wiper blades, I'd guess most are intact Bosch anyway every if they've got Ford written on them.

Yep, but you also won't even get the exact same OEM ones every time. They do switch supplier sometimes. They are only wipers afterall.

Can't go wrong with their multicar policy, renewal was £100 more so rang them up and got it reduced by almost £500.

All that says is you were being overcharged by £500.

You forget the cash for crash gangs - they fill up two cars and then purposefully crash to get £2500 each for 'whiplash'.
Even if whiplash is declared bogus, we may have people with a car with a major fault or other damage staging crashes with £250 bangers to get the 3rd party to pay for repairs.
