Going soap free in the shower... forever.

I came in here and thought it'd be full of dirty nonsense but it's quite interesting.. I used to get eczema badly when I was young and bathed all the time. Now I shower and the only areas I get eczema are those I put shower gel on. I never bother to lather up my legs or feet but do underarms, head and genitals - the only areas I get any... I don't on my legs or feet.. I might look into this..

As I said above, Simple shower gel, or whatever brand you can find which doesn't have colourants / perfume / whatever. It literally changed my skin. It's easily identifiable because it's always clear and in a clear bottle.

There are a few like that - "original source" is another one and widely available in Tesco - used to like the lemon one when when feeling drowsy them morning after a night out.

I wonder if the main thing is that they both use SLES instead of SLS, technically it is still an irritant but (AFAIK) not quite as bad and less likely to strip away so much from your skin.

There are other products out there that don't contain either, but then they don't tend to foam... and people like to see foam/lather when using their shower gel so that stuff gets added even when they manufacturer wants to market it as a gentle product etc.. natural packed with real lemons or mint etc.. or "simple" etc..

If someone wants to avoid both then they might need to look at the more expensive tea tree oil stuff.

Actually, I rarely use body wash, I tend to wash my hair and junk with the lather from that, and wash my face. I only really soap my body if I have gotten particularly grim, like after hours of dancing at a club. Never been a BO person, just figured it was down to genes, but maybe this plays a part too.

Soap was really bad for my skin, but I’m using just bog standard Dove Men Care shower gel now and my skin behaves itself largely.

I found natural soap was really really bad for resulting in mold growth in the shower as well.

I had problems like the OP but it got a lot better when i switched to Dove soap. I just use the bar, i'm not 100% but loads better than before. They do a sensitive version that's sulfate-free so i might try that for a while

yeah sles is much better and is always blended with capb that makes it even milder. Can still be irritating though.
I'm surprised people are still making stuff with sls (or als) in - most people switched to sles years ago. (sls is dirt cheap but sles is hardly expensive)

To be honest I find the key to smelling good is clean clothes and a tongue scraper. I use soap for the pits and groin but that's about it. A small amount of cologne is also fine on my skin.

Tongues, how do some people go around with a green tongue and not notice *bowfing*

Do her a favour and pick up Simple shower gel. Lidl / Also have their own brand and it’s really good (I wanna say Cien?). Much, much cheaper than Simple and just as good, if not better.

I used to get all sorts of rash / allergic reactions (proper ones too, itchy as hell) and my doc recommended to try them. It literally changed my life, no jokes.
Tried it before, she’s allergic to some of the ingredients :(
