New Build - 4k Future Proof - £2k budget

The louder fans/coil whine won't be an issue? I had the Zotac in the basket originally but the better reviews for the Gigabyte made me change over. Happy to change back though if the Zotac is overall better - i'd just rather a slightly slightly slower card that lasts well past the 3 year mark than a faster one that doesn't :p

Coil whine can happen to any card.

I'd rather get the faster card that I can downclock for noise/temps than a slower card that I can't oc with lol

@tamzzy is right - coil whine is ON everything! but the extent always differs. Gigabyte and asus have videos of how their cards are made. you'll see quick testing to see if cards are Dead or working. In theory, the cards should be ran in for an hour- but time is money and they are about 10 mins .
Every card anyone owns should be ran for an hour on Unigine valley or something similar - a really good stress test and it will lesson any coil whine a card has .

I personally prefer Gigabyte RMA and then ASUS - deal with Zotac directly or via distribution and not the best . Gigabytes is via direct or resller and then asus is via their distributor thats completely different to resellers as the have different account levels with them.

all RTX cards are roughly the same in speed, not like Maxwell where Gigabyte Xtreme and Zotac Amp along with HOF were kings as that was about how much voltage you could pump into the card. need boost techs dont allow this which is a shame- though EVGA new overclocking program will bring back old skool solid hz locked overclock. this will be a TRUE test of vendors cards :D

going zotac, you go through a good reseller like OCUK. go gigabyte you can go any as you have back up with Gigabyte rep on here or them directly.

LOL My EXACT reaction :D:D:D. But I don't mind because it was an excellent discussion to read and learn from, and a result of you lads putting in sincere effort in my behalf. I'll re-read and reply to all the monitor stuff later once the system is ordered.

So based on your facts being correct, especially bolded ^, this was an extremely convincing argument. @tamzzy said before when I asked him that upgrading the CPU is very easy nowadays because AIOs aren't a pain to to disconnect. My ONE concern with the 3600 is certain threads i've seen, THIS being the latest one where it appears to have some issues with the MSI Tomahawk MAX motherboard. But hopefully those are just rare problems and OcUK will snuff those out during the build, and they wont magically crop up again after the 3 year warranty has expired.

Current build:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,583.85 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Went with the Gigabyte (4 yr warranty) over the Zotac (5 yrs) because reading elsewhere I found loads of report that the Zotac sounds like a jet engine compared to the Gigabyte.

Do we have a consensus? @tamzzy @Plec @orbitalwalsh @aoaaron :p
Wow now that build looks beastly.

Best value for money processor with one of the most powerful consumer grade gpus money can buy.

I’d just get the card with the best warranty which is easily accessible. Google the companies name and see how easy it is to locate an email in the uk. If it’s hard, don’t bother with them.

Zotac are a bit naff.

That's impressive. What memory chips did they have?

Just had a look before I packed it up, it appears to be K4A8G085WB-BCRC which is a B-die chip although not one I've come across. It was unbranded RAM, so I'm happy with that and I might buy more to see if it the same.

Was that a stroke of luck or you already had some insight that it was likely to be B-die?

It was bought blind through a place I work for sometimes, it was the cheapest I could find that I could get quickly. So pure luck. :D

Sorry OP, didn't mean to off-topic your build thread.

Both seem to have easily findable UK warranty pages and contacts to be fair. From reviews the zotac runs a quite a bit hotter and a little louder, and I like the look of the gigabyte more. Id be happy with either but I've had good past experiences with gigabyte products as well so I'll give them my money again.

My fault too. Apologies OP.

No worries lads, small price to pay for all your help

if ocuk build it for you, aren't you covered on warranty if something fails or starts playing up?

Yeah, should collect it. Still under RMA of the vendor though, but OCUK would be more quicker to maybe take out of their stock and get one back in return. Happened a few times with full gigabyte quotes on here. Rep sometimes clears the air for quick RMA then normal . Not really OCUK fault if RMA is sometimes slow if they need to get a replacement or repaired part

Great - what was the final build spec?

Did you haggle?

As above, OcUK matched the black RAM to the white ones price. Because I placed the order over the phone they couldn't link it to my account which has free shipping, but I sent a message on the CS forum and I'm sure Damo will refund it and speak to the sales manager as promised re: discount on the £100 build price.

nice, let the thread know how you get on :D

Of course! Pictures and reviews to follow on 2nd September.
