The NHS is wonderful, but sometimes it really disappoints...

NHS shouldn't be performing cosmetic surgery unless it's required as a result of an accident or attack, utter waste of time, money and resources. We keep hearing that gender and sex are not the same thing but it's funny how you can't have one without the other when it comes to free surgery on an already overstretched NHS.

Performing cosmetic surgery for mental heath reasons usually saves the NHS money in the long run. I guess that makes for a really dull headline though.

I really hope you are joking. For the 4th time in my life the NHS saved my life this week. I fell down some stairs, broke 5 ribs and had a traumatic pneumothorax on my right lung on Monday. Ambulance to A&E @ Royal London and the care I received was first class from the minute I arrived to the minute I left today, even had a side room to myself on the trauma ward, doctors and nursing staff 10/10. And they had a Caribbean menu! Jerk chicken, brown stew chicken, lamb curry! Food was fantastic! We are so lucky in this country to have the NHS.

I’ve only had one experience of a short stay in hospital, almost exactly 24 years ago I suffered a mild heart attack, and “died” four times, being zapped back to life with the paddles each time.
I spent five nights in Guys Hospital, London Bridge, and the care I got was first class, they even let my son bring a portable TV in for me, as the daytime dross, and evening soaps in the day room were making me think of jumping out of the window.
The only down side for me, was the lousy food, and insipid coffee, but I wouldn’t complain about that, I was just glad that I was kept alive, I didn’t expect the NHS to provide cordon bleu food as well.
My wife brought me in a cafetière and a bag of coffee, and the nurses let me plug it in, and make as much coffee as I wanted, and every night, my wife brought me in a boxed up dinner from a French restaurant in Hays Galleria, Tooley St.

These trusts or otherwise running the hospitals have to draw lines regarding cost and benefit. Quite literally deciding at what point its a waste to throw money at a patient.

Also that original story is quite deceptively introduced. Bottom line was 95 year old cant care for himself and wants to live in 5000/m care home, while still owning a 300k house. A bunch of us are going to see that decision too. Quite possibly with grand parents, then parents, then personally.

Ditto other. If you have a mental issue and cutting your **** and balls off is officially approved treatment with positive outcome available to anyone else then so be it. His sentence is to be in prison and that doesn't change.

so you had a serious heart condition, and the staff there let you eat fatty foods?
the NHS is more ****** than it seems.

Gender reassignment isn’t “cosmetic” surgery though. You may not like it or agree with it but it’s a recognised medical condition.

He does say it was 24 years ago. The food for my stay was very good. Wide range of choices and very tasty too.

coa9991 is complaining about the staff letting Jean-F eat his own food that his wife brought in.

Looking at his other posts he won't be around long.

This is a human rights issue, the NHS doesn’t set policy. Everyone has human rights, even if you think they are barely human.

The story is a headline designed to make money, nothing more.

I complained about the staff letting me eat my own food? Where did I say that? I put it to you that you have a vivid imagination, and see things that others don’t, because the things don’t exist.
I don’t know what I’ve posted to rattle your chain, but on what do you base your assertion that I won’t be around long?

I appreciate your concern, but first of all, I didn’t have a “serious” heart condition, it turned out to be a blood clot, that was dispersed with what was described to me as a clot busting injection.
This had weakened a heart muscle, so I was hospitalised for 5 nights for observation.
Second of all, I don’t eat “fatty” foods, period, no chips, no burgers, no sweets, sugar, or candy, and I put low fat spread on bread, (which I rarely eat.)
The dishes that my wife fetched in, were grilled sea bass, peas, carrots, and haricots verts, salad Niçoise, bouillabaisse, and ratatouille, any potatoes were boiled, none baked.
At 79, I still do a one mile walk per day, and fluctuate between 69 and 71 kilos, so I’m not doing bad.

I'm not saying you were complaining Jean-F, the barely literate coa9991 chap was complaining that the NHS is terrible because they didnt stop you eating "fatty food" brought in for you. Like we have time to police what patients are eating whilst also keeping everyone alive!

The same chap posted some "interesting" views on women which have since been removed from another thread.

I've edited my post for clarity :)

Equally entertaining is if you did police what people are eating your just get branded as being part of the nanny state. You monster.

After the ward round everyone should be out of bed for their morning jog too, then two hours study for their masters degree before lunch time medicines.

What stick did you sit on today?

I did a search for NHS, several threads popped up, I read through some looking to post my great experience with the NHS and saw that post. So I asked whether the person was joking about the NHS as I think its amazing, not perfect by any means but still amazing as are the people who work within it. And are you really calling my post a rant?

Calm down gentlefolk, apparently my tongue in-cheek tone is slightly off this week, I was only joking, gently joshing, lightly teasing. No need for pistols at dawn. And yes, the NHS is awesome, stuff goes wrong from time to time but it's one of the biggest organisations in Europe, the biggest if you go by staffing, so that's to be expected.

I'm assuming from your post that you work in the NHS? If so thanks for your hard work. As ****** up as this country is the NHS and the people who work within it are something we can all be very proud of. I'll be taking a Hotel Chocolate box down to the ward I was on at Royal London when I'm up to it as a personal thank you. From the docs, nursing staff to catering and cleaning they were all fantastic, always had a smile and nothing was too much effort.

I do work in the NHS :) Proud of it too most of the time, though would never pretend the NHS is perfect.

Free chocolate is always going to be welcome on the wards, I've never seen food disappear quicker than in the ward, it can be quite a spectacle!

I just have an anti NHS bias. It would fit that they would allow that to happen

Glad you cleared that up for me, I obviously got the wrong end of the stick, gulp, grovel, grovel :(
