After my local news (Cambridge area) reported, proudly, that a learner driver wrote off her mum's car in the morning. Decided to take her last driving lesson on the same day, despite admitting had suffered a concussion, and passed her driving test the very next day.
Even if the whole accident was caused by the fact that other driver decided to overtake her next to a bend, and passing quite close, her mum shouting her name, and the lack of experience resulted in the car few metres from the road, in its roof.
Clearly, as a learner driver, you should be aware that bit all drivers would be considerate, but as someone learning to drive many years ago, as soon as I notice someone trying to overtake me, I would allow it. It's basic. Reading, constantly, what's happening around you.
Another problem is, when/if caught, very rare to happen as no police around, the reckless driver wouldn't face any serious punishment.
As avoiding motorways is not an option for me, I try my best to avoid problems and, as bad as it may sound, assume every other driver is a bad driver, an accident in potential.
Lane hogging, fail to indicate when changing lanes, overtaking and braking just after, to gain a precious 1 position, overtaking using the inner lane of roundabouts, ignore someone's priority at a junction/roundabout, nearly causing an accident and simply raisin the hand, as "sorry, sorted".
