In fact, as a professional wedding and event photographer with thousands of pounds worth of nikon lenses, I actually find it almost a little depressing how good these smart phone cameras are these days :D

Your using Nikon my friend, no wonder everything else is better ;):p:D

Also a pro tog and event tog here :)

Yeah my Xs iphone is still awesome, I was so close to getting the 11 Pro purely for the cameras - I use my mobile a lot for my own life, pics of the family, dog etc and its a great device, I'll hold out though for the 12, see what they do with that as the Xs is still incredibly powerful phone.

Not sure on Netflix, but getting tired of Apple being lazy/stubborn/slow on HDR for YouTube. Guess we wait months for HDR again as we did the previous phones with zero chance of above 1080p.
Annoying with a friend reminding me of this every time when he comes around with his Note 10
Still playing catch-up on the display

Does the pro support HDR/DV in Netflix?

we have a premium sub but it doesn’t popup in the app when watching a film and just wondered if it was playing in HDR mode

How is that anything to do with Apple? Google develop the youtube app and control what resolution it displays and if it does HDR. Same with Netflix and HDR.

The display is about as good as it gets in a phone and is actually made by Samsung. The one stat it doesn’t ‘win’ is refresh rate but the high refresh rate OLEDs have other flaws such as accurate colour reproduction, and not as bright, you can’t currently have everything.

Why do you need 4K on a 5.8” screen? You’ll not be able to tell the difference from more than 17cm away with perfect eyesight. That’s less than half the distance I would normally hold my phone from my face.

VP9 is open source is it not???

Please tell me where I mentioned 4K? How about slowing down the Apple fan boy rage button
1440p HDR on YouTube via a Note 10 is vastly superior to what my IPhone Pro Max can produce at the moment. I pay top money I expect the best. Simple

Hardly a nerd rage, you blame Apple but the reality is far more nuanced.

Google could implement HEVC, particularly when there is built in hardware decoders for it. HEVC is also more widely adopted industry standard. VP9 is Google’s baby.

Shock horror two fierce competitors don’t want to implement the standard the other chose, particularly when VC9 is developed by Google...

It’s just like flash player all over again, one day one of them will blink.

Again you can’t tell the difference between 1440P and 1080p on a 5.8” screen from more than 17cm away. The resolution is a red herring, the difference is the HDR and both Apple and Google are waiting for the other to blink. It’s 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

If it bothers you that much get a note and be happy...

Note 10 coming which is my personal phone, IPhone is the works Phone. So will have both.
Will be happy with the less buggy and proper performing display for my personal needs. ;):D:eek:

Buggy and proper performing display? Didn’t the pro just win best display award?

Those with the standard iPhone 11, how’s the screen? Thinking of swapping to iPhone from a Samsung S8 but I’m concerned the lower res screen might.....suck?

I don’t have the 11, but the LCD is meant to be very good. My main gripe is that the 11 is too big (I’ve held the X-r) and the screen is lower res, though from what I read that has no real impact and it still looks great.
