Road Cycling

What sort of riding do you do? The tcr is comfy and climbs lovely.

Bit of a mixed bag.
Spring classics in Belgium have been a yearly thing. I've done some half+full iron distance tri's. Small 20/30/50 mile blasts after work/weekend. Trips to Mallorca up in the north mountains. I cant nail it exactly but I guess short weekend ride is the average ride.

Nice price! Where from? Just something to watch out for when looking at Giants. I'd steer away from the Discs in Giants range which use Giant 'conduct' hydraulic brakes where the reservoir is housed in the stem. It's quite a tidy design, being cable actuated means you can 'save' by having cheaper shifters but the LBS guys where moaning about that when I was there a couple of weeks ago about how 'crappy' it made the whole system.

Ahhh, the usual cost is just RRP but I think I can get 3k from the CTW and then pay the topup myself. Looking at the specs, its all standard shimano kit but if I found that it had a custom part I wouldnt consider it. Thanks for letting me know.

The Giant has built in power meter (I currently dont have one)
The Cube is quite a bit cheaper.

Problem is that I have a 2014/5 BMC TMR02 and a 2015 BMC GF02 Disc; both on r8000 Di2 cable + hydro setup's.
I've got everything covered but it wont stop me window shopping!

I think BMC's tend to have standard Shimano cranksets, so just get a power meter? The TCR won't be as aero as the TMR02 or as comfortable as the GF02, but it is probably lighter... So maybe that's what you're missing...

But saving up and buying a PWM (crankarm/pedal) and a light set of carbon wheels would be money better spent. If you can get them on the CTW, some cover 'equipment'?!

Can't remember who linked me that one when I was looking last, but thanks! Although from the IS numbers I then had I still struggled to find the right bearings as not many are sold quoting them...
Yeah I've been there and it doesn't have the bike. Having similar issues as I have the IS numbers from that cane creek bearing. The Cane Creek option seems pretty expensive anyway in comparison to usual FSA offerings.

Is there a preferred chinese carbon disc clincher wheelset (something in the 50mm depth range) with through axles?
Is there any advantage to going non clincher?

I used to use an ebay seller carbonspeedcycle. Would go tubeless now more for future proofing the rims and giving you flexibility to use them offroad if you so wish with some knobbly tubeless tyres in the future.

Another random question.
So on my BMC, the "max" recommended tyre clearance is 25mm but there is still an air gap, so I can go larger. I put on 28's a few months ago and they fit but there was a tiny bit of frame rub, so I went back down to the 25's. The 28's were Conti GP4000's.

Is there a 28 tyre that measures 26/27? or is there a 25 tyre that measures 26/27? The only 27 tyre that I can find (so far) is the Challenge Paris Roubaix but I dont know how true that figure is.

Conti GP4000S II 28mm measure ~31mm wide, the 25mm variant is ~27mm wide.

4 Season 28mm are ~29mm wide and I've been lead to believe the GP5000 28mm are similar.

Many widths listed here:-

I mentioend to a friend how I do miss disc brakes on my road bike (my hybrid has discs) as the road bike is much less responsive on the breaks. They then pointed out to me that the pads are 5 years old (no miles, but old) and maybe I should get new pads. So, my question is, are pads fairly universal? How do I know which to buy?

I had a nice ride outside today!

I braved the winds and avoided almost all the showers. The high wind meant mostly dry roads and it gave me a chance to ride the Kinesis properly.

Im very pleased with how it rides, almost silent, no noise from the mud guards.

I have a very slight noise under high power: 400-500w in the saddle, could be anything so have to check crankset bolts, derailleur cage could be touching chain if something flexes, torque the cassette up more, spokes just rubbing where they pass over each other etc etc.

RD needed a quarter turn due to a little tardiness on shifting.

Will wind the brakes in a bit closer to reduce the dead travel in the lever but the power and modulation was great. Glad I splashed out as they weren’t cheap, TRP 957 long drops.

Besides that it was perfect. Maybe doesn’t soak up some bumps and lumps quite as nicely as my other frame, but then the RRP is 10x more! I went for the NDR version of the same saddle which has slightly more padding & it feels great to ride. Stability was good and no unusual handling or twitches in gusty winds/bad tarmac.

Has anyone got a grail cf? If so, how's it to ride? How are you getting on with the bars?

I had my eyes on the Al (when it came back in stock, if ever) but the more I think about it the cf makes more sense.

These in 25mm measure around 27 wide. They are pre-Corsa Control's which in 25mm also measure 27mm wide.
Absolute bargain for them. I'd recommend buying a few pairs as you will like them.

I'm never going back to Conti's. I've ran these Open Pave on my training wheels right through summer and not even bothered with my slightly better wheels with the Corsa's on them. Now commuting and riding on them in sub zero temps. Just hands down the best all round tyre I have ever used.

Tyre width also depends on rim width....

GP5000 measure either almost exactly 28 or larger depending on rim choice for me.

GP4000 always came up larger.

No, but if it's anything like the Inflite then I can imagine it being absolutely immense, although you need the places to ride it to really feel the benefits!

Are Cane Creek bearings 36 degree inner angle? I got the bearing linked by Vitus themselves and it seems according to Cane Creek's site says the 40 series is 36 degree inner angle. It fit onto the integrated crown race but I'm not sure it's a perfect fit... potentially it's just sitting there and the two faces aren't really mating but pretty impossible to see.

It felt like I had to tighten the headset up quite far to alleviate play. This is the for... I lack anything to actually measure the angle but from a guess it looks closer to 45 than 36.

Hard to tell without having things in front of me.

I've fitted CC 52mm bearings before but to forks using a CC crown race so no issues. General integrated crown races are 45 degrees though can be different.
