Tumbledown (1988) was pretty good

This.

The Falklands conflict played out while I was at school. It was glamourised for that younger age group to some extent, but even at that age there wasn’t much gloss to be put over why was an entirely horrible conflict. In between some daring missions (Vulcans, commandos non St George’s Island, the fascination with the danger of Exocets and Harriers vs Pumas(?) ) there were boats and submarines sunk with the loss of many lives, and often poorly equipped soldiers battling as much against the elements as each other.

We sunk the belgrano, fighting over a baron bit of rock I didnt see the point tbh,

Well that's something for the Argies to answer for tbh... the UK responded to their aggressive act. As for their battleship, it was a legit target and a threat to the task force - the rest of the Argie fleet headed back to port after it was sunk.

And, it turns out, quite a lot of fish and oil.

Not particularly relevant though, the fish and oil belongs to the Falklands.

The relevant part was highlighted by @Dis86 - the British Citizens living there.

Entirely relevant. The fish and oil still do belong to them, and do not belong to the invading force of Argentina.

Yes but the point was being made re: "we" as in the British side. thus another poster mentioning the British citizens etc..

Obviously there were incentives for the Argie to invade in the first place.

They could have moved the citizens back to the uk and let argentina have it

Why should we have done that?

Well we gave back most of our other colonies

The Falkland Islanders are free to become independent if they want to too, just like those other colonies - not sure what your point is there?

Currently they're happy with the current situation so what's the problem?

And none of those before the invasion were Argentina...You'll notice that it was owned by Britain before Argentina even existed. So...who exactly should we have given it back to?
