So I no longer need usbc

This opens the field to the
AW3418DW

Its 300 pounds less than its newer model and the LG

This will be an all round monitor
I'm a tad concerned with..

Is it OK for photo editing? (non pro)
Is there any reason to go for the 1k lg950/20dw?

Is a massive purchase and I rarely upgrade my monitors. So I dont want to make a mistake in this one!

Was considering the dell U3419w but no opinions on that one it seems

I have one and love it, but I didn't pay £1k for it either. What graphics card do you have? It's IPS so the response times are good but being IPS it has trade offs.

I have one too and also love mine, its built like a tank anf for gaming it's fantastic. I can't really comment on photo editing but it is IPS panel so should give pretty accurate images.

I have an Asus PG348Q and the black levels are terrible

Would this AW3418DW be a good upgrade over my Asus PG348Q ?

What the difference between the AW3418DW & AW3420DW ?

The AW3420DW has a much better panel in it than the one in the AW3418DW but I can't advise whether it's worth the extra £300. I am personally not a fan of UW monitors and prefer 2 x 27" 1440p monitors instead for similar money.

Apparently so, but 1k for a. Monitor is too much.
And I don't really mind about refresh rate. I've had 60hz since forever

I'm still undecided but need to choose soon.

Nothing seems ideal. VA and ghosting, IPS and bad blacks

I can't stand making most expensive decision on pc hardware and having such a big compromise

I increased the black levels on my IPS monitor by using Gamma 2.6, then lowering Hue/Colour Vibrance slightly, as 2.6 will saturate more than default 2.2. Made a big difference even if not VA level black. Not sure if the Alienware has Gamma 2.6.

Then get a 1440p 27" monitor with an IPS screen. If you then find you need more real estate then buy a 2nd one. 2 LG will cost you around £900 total. If you don't need a gaming monitor I have seen some decent Viewsonic and BenQ 27" 1440p panels for less than £300

Want to move away from dual monitor.

I have a u2711 (1440) UltraSharp and a u2410

To make it worth it I need a 34+

I think I'm going to order

A benq EX3501R (VA)
And LG 34gk950f (or AW3418DW or AW3420)

At same time and compare. I don't think I can decide any other way.
YouTube Videos don't help, I guess viewing down a camera on another screen will never work

I've never seen VA so have nothing except mixed advice as to what to go for.
Seeing them side by side I might know instantly.

Then IMHO pay the money and get the best. It's an asset that should last you many years and the AW3420DW is the best you can buy right now. Read the reviews on the manufacturer's website for that monitor as they are all amazing.
If you don't want Dell then get the LG with the same panel as the Dell from here for same price : https://www.overclockers.co.uk/lg-3...-curved-widescreen-led-monitor-mo-14w-lg.html
Oh ... we all have U3419W at work. It's nothing more than meh. Nothing like the Nano IPS panels.

VA was originally designed for TVs, is got good blacks so is good for watching videos etc. It is rubbish for playing games due to horrendous motion blur and I didn't like the way text looked on it. It is not a general use monitor like IPS which has it's own problems with glow and bleed. There are many articles on the web showing the difference between the two. I have had all three types and IPS is by far the best.
