Oculus Quest (Santa Cruz)

Thanks! i'll check, sounds like i may have to wait for an update.

You can check in the Settings/About menu if you have the update pending, and click 'update now' to get the update. I did that, then left my headset on sleep mode overnight (I normally turn it off) and the update was installed when I checked this morning.

Oculus tend to release a new version of Oculus software (PC) first then you have to wait till the Quest is updated. When it first came out mine took a few days to get it.
Does it say what the update includes ?
13 PTC didnt work with the Quest so I wonder if they have fixed it. 13 was also supposed to set hand tracking as default.

Update: Looks like Oculus have dropped the ball with the 13 release update. Few issues with it and 14 PTC
People reported link works if you use 14 PTC software and 13 firmware on Quest but this gives mixed results. Scroll down to today's posts.

  • When switching from Hand Tracking to using controllers, you can now more easily find your controllers by enabling Passthrough
  • We’ve added an option to enable automatic transitioning between hand tracking and controllers
  • We’ve added a new step to the Hand Tracking Tutorial that will allow you to practice scrolling with your hands
  • Remote rendering support for Unity has been added so developers can more easily build and test Hand Tracking apps through their PC
  • Improved Hand Tracking stability
Events
  • You can now start a party direct from a live event’s detail page to help you and your friends get into the event together more efficiently.
  • We’ve made improvements to the Oculus Event Invite feature.
    • Event hosts can now allow guests to invite their own friends.
    • Viewing a developer-created event will now allow you to view a list of all your friends who have indicated that they are interested in the event.

    • You can control whether or not you appear as part of the above invited or interested lists via the "Who can see your activity on Oculus" privacy setting.
Search
  • Updated app search appearance and behavior. Please note that we are testing this new look and feel with a limited group, so some users may continue to see the old version.
System Apps
  • A new app called Scoreboards will allow you to see how your achievement and leaderboard accomplishments compare to your friends’. Please note that this feature is rolling out slowly to all users, so you may not see it right away.

even though im trying hard not to spend, im so tempted to get one of these (even though i dont have the room for it to make it "worthwhile") I have £100 Voucher to use (John Lewis, Argos etc etc) tempting...

The beauty of the Quest is you can literally use it anywhere indoors. You don't need a huge amount of room for most of the games anyway to be honest.

And the Quest can be use in huge spaces, much bigger than can be achieved using tethered PC VR.
I've done this, and it transforms the experience and takes it onto a whole new level of amazing.

and it can be used outdoors too which ups the level even more !! Although good luck getting one supply is still suffering from Christmas sales. Apparently it was a massive seller over chrimbo.

and this Virus seems to effecting it too id imagine

Rift S and Quest are still out of stock

Got the new 13 firmware but the hand tacking <> controller auto swap doesnt work for me. I put the controllers down and it doesnt switch to hand tracking.
Must be something more to it.

Try putting your hands in the "oculus menu" position. Transition also only works on the oculus home screen, not within an app.

have you tried this one yet? i am strongly thinking of buying this

Doesnt look very comfortable it has no padding.

I have yet to try it; My quest has yet to arrive due to constant delays. I might not get to claim the Vader Immortal promotion, thanks to the delays.
As for it's comfort, I am going to be putting headphone padding on it if it isn't comfortable, as per the Frankenquest Welder mod.

Anyone able to recommend a 3rd party alternative to the Link cable for the Quest?

Amazon off the 3m Partylink cable, which I believe gets good reviews, but I suspect 3m might be too short? Is there a 5m or longer option?

Any other thoughts/views on the Link and/or 3rd party alternatives?

ps: My PC only has standard USB 3 format sockets, not USB C format.

If you put Amazon in the search for this thread there are links to the one that is recommended.

Still prefer Virtual desktop. ;)

Can't see any 5m cable options being discussed?

How does VD (no not that!) compare to a Link cable then? You can play Steam and Oculus library games via it, as if it were a Rift?

You can play Steam, Oculus and any PC VR Game via it wirelessly. Same as with the link but without the cable however needs some setup. Need good WIFI, accept there is some latency and you need to install Sideload to get full use plus you need to buy Virtual Desktop for a tenner then use the VD version in Sideload.

However again it then opens up the quest to mods for Beatsaber (GFX Mods, Custom Songs etc) amonst others and being able to put Sideload games and apps on it. For instance someone has made a primitive Terminator game where T100's come at you and you can shoot them. Also I've noticed more and more Hand Tracking software being experimented with in demo games and apps. Think of it like adding legal "Homebrew" software to the Quest. You can also alter the quality of the stream and tinker with the settings to improve performance.

Thanks!

I think I'd still like the option to go "Link" via a 5m(+) cable... So any suggestions of ones that work would be good. Shame PartyLink don't seem to have on out...
