Homemade rocket man is about to prove the earth is flat...

I’m sure I saw a story somewhere earlier where his publicist said he didn’t actually believe the flat earth stuff he was just using it for the publicity it gave him and his project.

sad that you're defending him. the ****ing idiot died for no good reason apart from either genuine stupidity or some stupid attention addiction. He was trying to prove something wrong that has been absolutely unequivocally proven for about 2000 years. was an utterly stupid **** and deserves no sympathy whatsoever, he brought it on himself for no good reason at all.

Where did I say that I was defending him?
Despite whether you believe what he did was stupid or not, I was just pointing out that most people on here are making fun of his death, he was trying to prove something he believed in, whether or not you believe it is your choice, the same as it was his choice to believe what he did, and I was trying to point out, that if this was just a regular bloke who did something stupid, you'd all say "well that was unfortunate" or something similar, but because he believed in something you find stupid, that somehow makes him less of a person.

You said that last time...

I thought they believed in magnetism so the flat earth being a big magnet attracted the metal rocket.

Haha, sorry for my ignorance... guess I need to 'do my own research' :)
I'm a member of another sport-related forum, and a member on there's a legitimate, full blown flat earther. I've only dipped into his thread on the matter and not fully educated on all their hypothesis as I'd get triggered.

True, but how do you know it wasn't the magnetic dome over the flat earth that repulsed the rocket back down with sufficient force to cause the impact?

Then it's still magnets and not mavity

Follow the curve

Why would you want to make a rocket to find out if the earth was flat? I would have just sent a drone up.

Already posted above, a drone cannot go high enough it would take at least a balloon if you do not have a spyplane on hand or did you not read the entire thread.

Many people build something that kills them, be it a fast record breaking car or boat or plane or a spacecraft, he still had engineering skills well above anyone here.

The necessary information is easily available. Cleverness is required to invent, not to copy.

Some people cannot put a nut in a monkeys mouth even with a manual/instructions (their car or a flatpack wardrobe) so its not so easy.

This guy may have been eccentric and even nutty but also brave and clever (I was aware of him well before this crash), unlike most of the Flat Earth Brigade he said the last time he was open to fact it is round and that is what he wants to see for himself.

I always thought it would have been nice to see a video of him being taken up in a spyplane not some " so called celeb" (the YouTube videos).

And sense well below anyone here, unless he was doing it as a publicity stunt.

1) The earliest surviving formal proof of the Earth being round is about 2500 years old and nails it down in detail with an abundance of evidence. The only thing they got wrong was that they thought Earth was a perfect sphere and it's a miniscule amount off being a perfect sphere. And that's the just oldest surviving formal proof - people knew it wasn't flat long before then. In addition, a flat planet just wouldn't work anyway even if some entity made one for some reason. Without adding a massive amount of magic into the mix, it's just not a thing that can happen. Flat earth is a modern myth started as a joke. Trying to prove it true is on a par with trying to prove that the moon is made of cheese.

2) It's a great deal easier, cheaper and safer to make a balloon that can go far higher than his little rocket might have managed.

3) It's a pointless exercise anyway because flat earthism is a belief and thus requires the dismissal of evidence and thought as irrelevant. If you put a bunch of flat earthers in a transparent spaceship and flew them in various orbits around Earth with a 24/7 video feed live to everywhere on Earth and constant tracking of the spaceship's position by anyone who wants to do so and who has some radio equipment...it wouldn't make any difference at all.

I didn't say it was easy. Not for everyone, anyway. My objection was to the word "clever". Building a rocket is not rocket science.

He was probably cleverer than many here who mocked him, I doubt they could even begin to make some form of rocket.

I'm clever enough to know not to build a rocket and test fly it with me in it.

You could probably find everything you need to plan and build what he built online pretty quickly. It's the money required to build it and then space where you would actually be allowed to fly the thing that would be the problem.

They have model planes with jet engines, they just need a X-43 replica
