It's not simply a case of football being commercial, it's a matter of survival for a number of clubs. Who knows what insurances clubs have in place or what's covered but there is huge potential for clubs to go bust over this and not just lower league sides but even PL sides.

Would this fall under an Act of God? The insurers will try and wriggle out of paying.

Like they were discussing on SSN this morning you can't really just stop the season now and give out the places as is without massive lawsuits.

e.g CL places if you go down to 5th because of City then currently Man United would get a spot......but they've played a game more than Sheffield United who if they won that would be 5th themselves so who gets the place? Champions League would be absolutely huge for Sheff United you couldn't rob them of the opportunity to earn it surely? Same down the bottom Villa would be relegated but they've got a game in hand which if they won would send Watford down not them.

If survival can only occur due to commercial income then why does it matter if the clubs go to the wall, doesn't stop players playing the game and calling themselves the same name, and people coming to watch them and cheer them on for free, after all what difference does it make as long as the game is being played and enoyed?

True I didn't think of that but with the amount of money in football I'm sure they could rally and arrange some kind of pot to loan money at no interest to clubs in danger of going bust.

I've no idea. Insurers may argue that Sky et al are still liable to pay for their TV rights, Sky will argue otherwise. One thing for certain is that you're probably looking at a total of around £1bn in the PL alone being lost or argued about.

well it is, China will be rid of it soon. South Korea is about heading that way. go look at the data make your own informed opinions rather than believing the media hype train. It's there in black and white.

China is still in lockdown. Do you know what happens when the lockdown ends? It starts up again. There is no stopping this. All we can do is slow it so it doesn’t overwhelm the health care services. There won’t be a vaccine anytime soon, this is the same family as SARS and MERS and they still don’t have a vaccine for those. Summer won’t stop it either. MERS is from Saudi and its pretty hot there.
Listen to the Joe Rogan episode this week with Micheal Osterholm. He explains this isn’t going away for months and he’s an expert in this field.

On the flip side of the coin though if you just suddenly restart the season in a few months time the form of teams could be completely different resulting in a kind of season of 2 halves with things happening that wouldn't have ordinarily happened, a lot of players and teams are not just going to be able to hit the ground running where they left off, particularly if a club has been heavily affected by illness. Once the season is suspended for a month long period there's no real way to carry it on normally at a later date. You could have situations where Norwich aren't affected at all and spend 2 months training behind closed doors winning 5 games on the bounce.

Would the PL going bust be a bad thing for 'sport'?
The League wouldn't go bust, nor would the vast majority of PL sides. It's even possibly if not likely that no PL sides would go bust however without help, a large number of lower league sides could.

Cannot see ANY way this season gets finished

even IF they can continue games in april AND euros gets put back till 2021

you cant ask teams to play through the summer to finish this season, then start the next and THEN go into the euros

the players will be in bits

ALSO on 31st may west ham lose access to the olympic stadium as its being used for athletics so you cant ask west ham to play any remaining home games somewhere else!!

players contracts end 1st june also

its bot going to get finished im telling you

theres a high chance between now and april 3rd more staff or players come down with corona and at this stage once again!!

Indeed. The postponement of the league is only a postponement of the inevitable cancelling/voiding of this seasons league. Probably just buying themselves a few weeks while they look into the legalities of it all. I’d be pretty sure the leagues done now for this season and it’s just a matter of waiting to see what they decide to do about winners/relegation/euro comp qualifications etc.

no promtions or relegations looks like the way its going, whover is top and in the european places now will be in next year.
if it goes that bad that is.

no way will they cancel the full campaign.

no matter how much we all know Liverpool have won the league whilst its still mathematically possible for man city to win it there is no way they can give the title to liverpool

same goes for European places!
