Can someone explain what people typically post on instagram?

Instagram is about the only social media I post on now apart from a few groups on Facebook. I don't see any rubbish as I only follow people I'm interested in. Mine is mainly climbing photos or photos of the outdoors, bbqing, rowing and my cats and dog.

And here is the correct usage of any social media. To see and share common interests. The people who are always complaining are those who have little or no general interests so naturally all they see are people enjoying themselves which in turn annoys them more and then go on to proclaim it to be a platform only for narcissists.

It seems it isn't so popular among Americans - it has 120.7 million users, but 89 per cent are outside the US.

I thought that didn't seem quite right - a quick Google suggests 120.7m users in the US, who make up only 11% of their overall users. The other 89% of the billion + are from outside the US.

As for the topic, I don't really post anything, but the last dozen posts on my feed are mostly friends travelling/hiking/cycling, weird collages and a lot of hot cross buns.

120m (more than 1/3) seems like a lot of Americans to me, considering the demographic of under the age of 10 to those above the age of 40/50.

I recently joined. It's a very good time-suck both browsing and then if you start posting - investigation hashtags, doing stories etc. God I spent about 2hrs trying to post one video story the other day :p It's a good learning experience.

It is a numbers game though. I've decided that for every feminist who talks about the glass ceiling etc. for women in the workplace; I'm going to point them towards Instagram where any untalented bimbo can get her norks out (or not even!) and get 100k followers and advertising deals. Can't see that opportunity for guys? ;)

Quite right. I was chewing on a snack when I was viewing the number of users.

#livingmybestlife :o

Absolute trash generally. Some people on there are cringe beyond belief, I couldn't imagine dancing around thinking people wanted to see me or cared. Don't even get me started on the crossfit crap, no one wants to see your terrible form and shockingly poor 'exercises'. Oh, don't forget the pout.

There is plenty of good content on Instagram, you just have to look for it. I follow lots of military history and historical weaponry accounts as that's what I'm into (@antique_steel).

Same as every other social media platform .... depends on what/who you follow.

Most of the people I know on there tend to post nature pictures and I'm also in contact with quite a few musicians via it. You also get nice accounts like @picturenottingham who tend to post historic photos of the city and frequently what that area is like now.

If you follow vapid moronic "influencers" then you will get the sort of posting you would expect from that demographic ....

Same here. Feel way better away from Facebook and its doom and gloom or showing off.

I suppose for me it's a picturebook where I've chosen the subjects and the contributors.

And it's the easiest one to not see all the junk on because you just follow the tags you want to see and it's hard for people to fit their self absorbed Facebook style posts into those tags

I rarely even see the comments on most of the stuff I enjoy , nevermind read them

I have a private and public Instagram account. Friends and family on my private account where I share photos and stories of daily stuff. My public account I just use to post fancy photos of my hobbies.

I’ve noticed a lot of people don’t post on their “grid” anymore, mainly stories. The exception being influencers / companies who post a lot.
