Live Stream of my Bird Box - Bluetits Nesting - Chicks Hatching Now

PH Premium :p LOL or where you on about a BBC TV Licence?
The former is free at the moment, apparently, not that I'd know. The latter is also free if you don't mind the occasional visit from a jobsworth who doesn't know the law ;)

She's awake and bringing material in again.

Fingers crossed I've not seen her take anything out so far but we know what she's like!

I've noticed that the most active times for nest building seem to be 7.00 - 10.00am and 4.00-7.00pm.

Fantastic! Glad it’s all working for you and very easy to update the direct URL.

I am monitoring the url for any downtime that occurs push iOS push notifications + email so I’ll see any issues straight away.

I hope they nest I think they might have made their mind up they want all 3 boxes lol.

@Nazbit - Are you needing to stream to a cloud system that has recording? Was this a reason why you chose YouTube?

Would be awesome to see how much the 4 cams are using in terms of bandwidth push to YouTube.

Have you actually checked the YouTube Studio app for streaming?

According to blue Iris which records all of my CCTV cameras on a HP Microserver the bird box cameras (2MP) are averaging 230kB/s each. The external camera (3MP) is averaging 370kB/s native but then that's undergoing some cropping and rotation before streaming to YouTube.

Main reason for YouTube was to make it simple for people like my grandparents who would have used YouTube before. I've used twitch on occasion but not much. Not really aware of any other alternatives myself.

The YouTube recording is also nice to have though.

Blue Iris is recording each individual stream 24/7 but nothing is recording the combined stream at the moment other than YouTube.

The paid version of XSplit does look like it will do some helpful things. It will allow local recording of the merged stream in real time. It will also allow custom resolutions to get the nicer layout without overlapping.

I just wanted to test the software first as OBS didn't work out well for me but it seems to be stable so I'll probably buy it in the next couple of days.

Interesting. We have an owl apparently nesting in an old putlog hole in the back of our house and being fed by her mate. Capturing video with a cheap trail camera on the balcony at the moment, but will invest in a camera system like yours for the future if they have young this year as owl often re-use nest sites.

That's very cool. Please do look in to it next year if the nest is successful and you can spare the funds. Not sure how the owl's year differs but the advice tends to be late summer / early autumn for doing anything with boxes. Gives them the winter to get used to it and approve the site. Mid winter onwards is usually too late I've read.

Maybe try uploading some of the wildlife camera footage of you get some good clips?

We hear an owl at night. There's a church yard a few hundred metres away that's where we think it is. Very soothing to hear it calling while nodding off.

Just caught my first glimpse of bringing nesting material.

Amazing what she manages to carry isn't it? Relative to her size and weight?

I've noticed since having the external cam up that she actually comes sometimes with so much moss that she can't fit through the whole and has to turn back and drop some.

There's a screen capture of her with a break full off moss a few pages ago. Quality not great but still interesting.

long time lurker here - created an account just so i can comment on this lol. Work stuff on one screen, live stream of birdies on the other.:D

Looks like she's emptying some out again.

Notice she's brought some wool in. We have sheep roaming across moorland and they shed quite a lot of wool so I think that's what those white bits are.

She's also found some darker hair or fluff of some sort. Can anyone tell what that is?

Glad you like it that's what I've been doing keeping it open all day although she seems to stay away for a few hours around lunchtime and be most active morning and evening.

Definite change in material choice this morning.

We had a bit of wool yesterday evening and then she went back to moss first thing this morning.

Lots of wool, straw and even some twigs coming in now.

She's settled down for the night.

She always seems to go head first on to that bottom right hand corner to sleep.

We all have our favourite arm chair I guess!

I've switched to the paid version of the software (apologies for disruption over last half hour) which allows custom resolutions so I can now have the other cameras side by side without overlap. Hopefully that's an improvement.

Hoping it will be nice and stable from now on.

Just have to bounce the stream twice a day to keep them under 12 hours so they are saved to YouTube.

https://bird-box.ml will continue to point to the current live stream and if you have a YouTube account you can always subscribe to make it easier to find the latest stream.

How wonderful, thank you.

I have blue **** (oh come on auto filter!) nesting in the roof above my study. Its been really great watching them from home.

Unfortunately my bird box got taken over by bees and kicked the birds out last year. I was gutted.

Lots of fluffy stuff coming in today where as yesterday had a lot of straw.

She seems to be on her regular afternoon break now. She tends to come back anytime between 4pm and 6pm and resume nest building.

Yeah we do have sheep roaming on the common here. Lots of wool gets caught up on barbed wire fences.

Interestingly every night so far she's gone to sleep with her head pressed on to the bottom right corner.

Tonight she's sleeping in the middle.
