Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Internet went down just now and thought it would be this outage but fortunately was just the M500 upgrade kicking in!

M500 has a profile of 575Mb/38.5Mb.

I have only had it a few days but I have seen 561Mb/38Mb

Is there any confirmation on that, as my contract states a max speed of 548/37Mbps. 99% of the speed tests I've seen from people on M500 are never above 550Mbps, of course you get anomalies on the likes of fast.com.

As I mentioned before, I personally have seen speeds higher than 548/37Mbps.

I've also seen it mentioned in quite a few places but a quick search finds this example.

There's no evidence in that article of a 575/38.5Mbps profile. If you could upload a few consistent speed tests throughout the day showing higher speeds then I may believe it. One-offs don't really count.

Over-provisioning has always been around 10% on each tier.

The profile assigned to your modem can be viewed in the web interface

575/38.5Mbps profile on mine.

Mines the same but never see those speeds even with one device wired in on modem mode.

I think if you did consistent speed tests throughout the day you would find it tops out around 540-550. The odd burst above here and there is no use to anyone really.

I was never under the impression I would get these speeds flat out all day long. I was simply stating what the profile for M500 was.

Fair enough, I should have probably said max real world speeds instead of profile. I've downloaded some large game files on different services and the peak speed on all of them was 68MB/s, if it does burst that high then I'll be looking for around 72MB/s.

My speed tests are averaging well over 500, highest I have seen is about 545 Mbps. With upload anywhere from 30-37. (This is from my little server box wired in)

Side question has anyone ever experiences an issue with the hub 3.0 where it seems to lose connection and takes about 3-5 mins to restablish its connection at roughly the same time every day?

I upgrade from the 2.0 to 3.0 Hub as the wifi network would disappear on the 2.0 suddenly and ever since upgrading to the 3.0 Hub it drops the connection at 12:15-12:30 every single night and has done for over a month and aside from this restart every night the connection is solid. Virgin claim there is nothing wrong and are sending an engineer out but to be honest its a waste of time in my opinion as their forums are littered with basically the exact same complaint but no-one has ever provided an answer. Plus ive only had this issue since upgrading to the 3.0 Hub so im convinced the 3.0 hub is either a pile of **** or its a setting on their end and they have no idea what it is.
