NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

And just an FYI. The 2080Ti AIB cards started at £999. The 780Ti cards started at £690.

The 780Ti was launched at £559.

Announced almost out of nowhere less than a month ago, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Ti is already here. It comes with the bold claim of being the best gaming GPU on the planet, and as you'd expect, such a card comes with a hefty cost; it's entering the UK market at £559, and the US one at $699.

That might be the case but the 780Ti was released at £559 as I bought one for just under that. Not £690 as melmac posted.

Sorry, I will correct my post as I meant to use $ not £. And not sure why I wrote £690 it was meant to be $699 :)

2080Ti AIB cards started at $999 and 780Ti AIB cards started at $699.

I try to use dollars when comparing price history as the price isn't affected by exchange rates.

There is a lot of cheap credit nowadays - people have got £1000s into debt, buying gaming PC parts,or literally won't save any money,ie,just spend their whole paycheck. Look at phones - a contract is essentially a loan,so if people had to pay the full amount upfront, less of the high end ones would probably be sold. So a £1000 iPhone being £1200 doesn't look so bad if you are paying it off over 2 to 3 years.
That's very true but the reckoning is coming super soon, C19, mass un-employment, Brexit fiasco plus very high consumer debt in the UK especially means that's genuinely unsustainable for the first time in forever.

Economy collapsing, 3-4m unemployed, pandemic....and yet people are still kidding themselves & queuing up to throw money at PC & Console gaming.

People need to get real and get their priorities straight because not having the latest & greatest Nvidia Gfx cards & gaming consoles is going to be the least of their problems in the coming months & years.
Agreed, said as much if these circumstances don't affect prices then nothing will.

That makes sense. I agree on using dollars as the fairest comparison. :)

I tell you what we don't need, another nvidia line up of gpu's with about 5-10% perf difference between each product stack! Confusing as hell and absolutely unnecessary!

In NVidia's defense price wise, (say what!!! I cannot believe I just typed that)
With the price issue, the one thing that you all seem to have forgotten is that the 2080ti was the first ti card to be launched at the same time as the xx80 card rather than several months latter.

On the performance front.

Now I know that the Tech powerup database isn't the be all and end all of comparisons but it gives us a rough idea of what is what.

It does show us just how good Fermi (GTX 480) was and just how good the pascal (1080ti) was.

Now from Turing to Ampere, we just don't know yet, but hopefully these figures will help too level expectations.

Personally I reckon about 40-50% faster for the 3080Ti and a launch price of $999

I would say the fallout of C19 will be felt worldwide, but it won't stop Apple,Nvidia,AMD,etc trying their best to push prices up.IMHO,they can keep their products if they want to try those stunts. As long as what I have works,I can simply upgrade less often.
