AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

To be fair, if the rumors are true for the 3090 it is one Pig of a card. It would be hard, very hard, to believe that this die is on 7nm. The level of efficiency on this card would be very low in my opinion.

AMD or Nvidia could take a particular die to its max in the name of performance. Throwing complete caution to the wind on power consumption, yields and cost. I just don't see what's so special about the card other than they threw everything at it but the kitchen sink. Therefore charging you everything but the kitchen sink.

Been saying it for a while, AMD are going for the price to performance crown as they did with Ryzen. They aren't the absolute fastest but offer much better value for money for the masses. I'm betting Nvidia are still the fastest, their loyal fans will still by their cards, everyone else will be happy with 80% of the performance at half the price (of the top end).

AMD need to gain market share and mindshare before they start trying to look at price parity. Ryzen 8s creeping up now but they're closing in on (single core) performance and winning on multicore.

Think I'll keep my 5700XT this roundaround aim for a 100% faster card whenever that happens. Sticking with AMD though as, for now, I still think they need the support to stay competitive. I've no issue switching in the future if they get complacent.

I agree, 2080Ti-level perf is enough for 95% of gamers imo, and if they can come in at the best price that they can manage then they will sell by the buckloads. The problem come is if 7nm is as constrained as has been whispered about then they're gonna hike the price a little in order not to outstrip their capacity too much. It's all one big balancing act!

Absolutely. I may be wrong but I was under the impression that AMD have been in with TSMC for a long time and will have had this planned out for years? If so I'd expect they'd have as much access to 7nm as anyone, especially as they have the console orders too. Their biggest issue might be higher than expected sales. It seems that Nvidia might be the ones struggling with the talk of having to use a less than optimal process. I wonder if they're doing an Intel and got just a little bit complacent?

Don't forget that it won't just be "2080Ti-level" performance... the vastly improved RT capabilities of both AMD and Nvidia cards will mean that the 2080 Ti will get left behind in many situations where RT is enabled and it will mean people can play at frame rates and resolutions that a 2080 Ti cannot manage in the same scenarios. That will matter a lot next year when RT actually starts to have significance.

Yep. That why I skipped the 2000 series. The lack of titles and lack lustre RT performance for the premium asking price. Looking forward to the new cards now as all the games I want will be coming out in the next 3-12 months and hopefully I can turn on RT without tanking fps

The incursion is real.

It's an Nvidia driver issue. Game is flawless on AMD. Maybe time for people to hold the green team's software team accountable as well.

They were saying before the consoles, which are rumoured to be out at the start of November. We'll see. Hoping it's before Cyberpunk 2077.

Edit - that might not be the ‘killer’ card but one of the new models is supposed to be out around then.

Yea I remember that also. He did end up getting a 1080Ti, clearly loved it but something slowly ate at him inside bit by bit which made him sell it and buy a Vega 64. As I recall he then went on to say Vega 64 was a card that is much more fun to own as you can tweak it and spend ages getting it how to perform like it should out of the box

I do agree it is fun when a manufacturer leaves performance on the table which you can unlock by tweaking yourself, but that is only valid if the price of the said card is a decent chunk cheaper. Vega 64 was not, was even more expensive at times due to the mining boom at the time.

I just say it as it is. Happy to bash both AMD and Nvidia when called for

That would be a strange side/downgrade. Your right though, giving the brand a hard time for what they are doesnt equate to being a fanboy for the alternative choice.
