If with 52 CU's an XBox Series X matches if not beats a 2080 Super, an 80 CU RDNA2 GPU should compete with a 3080.

Guys the 3080 was vs a standard 2080, the performance difference was 60 - 80% in Nvidia controlled benchmarks, so best case. The 3080 is about 35% faster than the 2080TI.

The 2080TI is 15% faster than the 2080 Super, 80CU's is 55% more than 52. Take the clock speeds from the PS5 as add them to that you get 330Mhz or +18%.

An 80CU RDNA2 dGPU at 2.23Ghz is probably 40% or more faster than a 2080TI, so at least as fast as the 3080.

The 3090 has 25% more shaders, Nvidia have pushed the 3080 pretty close to the top tier card, to in side of 25%, i suspect they did that because they know what's coming.

Damn I'm excited for more info now, hope they start leaking soon!!

I only want an RT-capable card for CP2077, so can afford to wait and compare :)

November release expected atm, hopefully we get a paper launch in Oct.

I would have thought AMD will have to do some sort of hyping up of their new range before the 3000s release?

They have to leak something soon surely. The 3080 has really put the cat amongst the pigeons and if AMD don't hurry up then in the next two weeks they will have lost the floating voters who would have considered their cards.

Im in this position. If I don't hear anything from AMD by the time the 3080 is out, I will buy one.

I honestly don't think I'm interested in a sub-80 CU part
Then you're out of luck, I really don't see an 80 CU part being made.

but then, who cares about CU countss? I've only been using numbers to illustrate RDNA 2's potential in facing Ampere, but it's the actual performance that counts. So, you may not be interested in a sub-80 CU part, but would you be interested in a 3080 beater? Does it matter how many CUs it takes to get there?

I am leaning this way, 3080 looks a pretty good proposition at the moment, should double my performance(running a 1080). Need some AMD news pretty soon.

Lisa Su needs to get those cameras into her kitchen ASAP. She has about 2 weeks for a response, if not AMD will lose a lot of sales me thinks.

They have everything to lose. Like someone pointed out the ball is in AMDs court.

They need a solid launch not a rushed launch.
They don't need to launch, they just need to come out and say what to expect like Nvidia did or accidentally leak something. As long as they can back up what they say, there will be no damage.

If they don't do something quick they'll lose loads of potential customers who will all buy 3080's on day one.

They knew this announcement was coming 21 days ago. IF they have something big, now is the time to drop it and take all the thunder away from Nvidia.

That's why they need to launch. They either have the specs to compete or don't, if the latter they're not going to find the extra required this time around and will have to compete on price or bundles. Doesn't cost them anything to launch on paper as all the products could go up for pre-orders. They either can't squeeze enough extra out through drivers or some commercial agreement with a third party to enable a bundled offer isn't in place, such as a Cyber Punk deal. If they don't launch or at least reveal an engineering sample bench test they will loose a lot of sales. Alternatively I'm skeptical why NV would release such a large leap if they weren't expecting a huge leap from AMD.

Jesus wept, it's not even been 24 hours and people are demanding AMD reveal something? Patience, people. Do you really want the same level of calamity the 5700 series had at launch?

AMD only need to leak something IF what they have in store is better, if AMD's not competitive (price/ performance competitive, not more powerful than 3080/ 3090) then they are better to keep quiet and hope people hold off buying, will be interesting to see what comes out over the next 3 weeks.
