I just can't believe people would buy a new card without first seeing what the competition has (and we're not talking a long time until that happens) and then seeing some benchmarks comparing the cards, before making an informed decision.
As mentioned already, there is a lot of just "buy buy buy" and reading the other Nvidia thread was just funny at times. Some good comments in it though as well. Regardless of the price, regardless of the power draw, regardless of the size, there are just some people who just blindly buy it because you know... it's Nvidia. I did chuckle to myself when I saw the PSU requirements as well. I've been told that 1200w (which I have, is overkill) and just to stick with the usual ~700w. Pretty glad I didn't listen to any of that advice and went with my gut to future proof the system / add longevity to a crucial component... after all, PSU's can go 10+ years quite happily, so why restrict yourself (get the most you can afford). PSUs are most efficient with a nice bit of headroom. I believe anything over 50-60% load and that efficiency drops away. I had similar experience with going with 32GB of RAM over 16GB and now I'm seeing more and more threads appear asking about going to 32GB.
People have no problem throwing a lot of money at a GPU but neglect other areas of their rig. So as others have mentioned, I'll be waiting for AMD's news, some benchmarks of everything, and then deciding between the lot.
