I don't think saying "Something big is coming." Will cut it. People have a reason to buy 3000 and AMD needs to give us a reason not to. (Assuming they care if we buy 3000 or not, of course)

Just being devils advocate here, but if they knock a 'big' card out of the park, people wont care about hype + loyalty as once something is just a brute, it all goes out of the window. There still is this chance tbf as we have not heard anything.

Well, with console coming, AMD will be in the news full stop so why not dominate, let nVidia have their 2 weeks, then AMD comes in with Big Navi, two killer consoles and is now dominating the home user cpu market as well, sounds like a solid strategy to me... I don't believe AMD are losing customers by making them wait 2 more weeks for example... if someone wants a nvidia, they're goign to buy an nvidia, simple as that. I get that and good luck to them. I personally like a lot of sane people, will just sit back, love the drama and hype and see what the benchmarks versus the pricing takes... then make a decision, it might be that I just stick with this 5700XT as it does everything I need... for now.

The problem I have is, I water cool, and it's a ball ache to change cards rofl... that founders edition nVidia is gorgeous, have to admit, but for me pointless as it'll be taken apart day 1 lol, so although that might be a great card for me, I don't care what it looks like, it's a pity they never offered barebones PCB editions where you don't pay for all the crap I don't want, I want a card that runs fast and cheap, take all that cooling off please for people who water cool. never gonna happen but for me, what a card looks or cools like, I really actually don't care?

Tell ya what though, ebay is mental isn't it right now, never in my life seen so many nVidia cards on sale YEt barely any AMD... it's like AMD owners are kinda staying as AMD owners and sitting back? Seeing what happens, where'as the nVidia crew are selling to go nVidia again... that's what it looks like anyway... I don't see millions of 5600/5700/570XT's on sale at all...

I get what you're saying, and I agree, it's a sound strategy for AMD's success at the low end/mainstream market. I think AMD following that method will make a lot of money. Their RTX 3060 equivalent card will likely be much better value alongside possibly their 3070 or just below 3070 card.

When I say low-end, take it with a pinch of salt as obviously GPU prices are anything but low-end. However in the realms of performance, I'd say high end is 4k and above.

There seems to be two trains of thought going on here which causes the majority of diagreements.
1. AMD supporters who are showing why AMD will be successful, and
2. PC enthusiasts who simply want the best performance possible.

Long term wise, its great if AMD perform well but in the short term, I honestly just care about who will provide me with the best possible GPU for my higher end needs.

Most of us on this forum aren't at the low-end or mid-end, and anyone looking at the RTX 3080 certainly shouldn't be. We're prepared to pay a sensible amount of money for 4K, as close to 120fps, ray-traced graphics with advanced feature sets. The big question on my mind is are AMD relevant to my needs? I don't need to save £100 to have a card which provides better performance per £ to the 3070. I need to have a competitive, high-end, feature-rich product which can power the latest, most demanding games.

And I think you're very wrong on 'if someone wants a nvidia, they're goign to buy an nvidia'. I'd happily buy an AMD GPU or an NVIDIA GPU, all I care about is the highest performance possible to power my display. However I'm not prepared to wait months for AMD to potentially let me down on this front.

I've learnt its dangerous to wait for AMD. I waited for AMD when NVIDIA released the 1080ti and I waited a very long time until they came out with a product which matched it.

That hypothesis can only be proven if they actually announce something.

See, I don't get this mentality. What harm does waiting 4-6 weeks do? All it does is allow you to make an informed decision.. *shrug*

Hmmm. Found on Igor's forum.

I just realised that if AMD can flick all those CUs to work on Raytracing, this could be a beastly card for rendering.

I wonder who would come out on top between Ampere and RDNA 2

It's how long the wait really is.
As I said, I didn't get a 1080ti and waited for AMD to release a competitive card. I waited a very long time, and ended up having to get a 2080.

Given the previous performance targets of the last couple of generations of AMD GPUs this makes the most sense. I'm going to assume AMD's best GPU they release will land in the middle of the 3070 and 3080, probably leaning towards the 3070, but for a very competitive price with more VRAM. Without DLSS, the specific RTX proprietary stuff NVIDIA have locked away etc.

I hope I'm wrong but I just don't see it happened. I'll assume NVIDIA have inside knowledge and know they can holdback their 3080TI because AMD don't have a GPU which can go toe to toe with the 3080.

I won't be "angry" with AMD if they do that. I'll just already have bought something else at that point.

Heck, I'm not going to be mad at Nvidia if when they bring out a card that's faster than the 3080...possibly even cheaper.

If I *knew* something better was imminent, I would wait and buy whatever that something better is. But I'm willing gamble a loss of value on my 3080 that "something better" won't happen this year. I want something to push my Reverb more comfortably than my 1080Ti can. I have been waiting since May and the 3080 looks like it will get the job done at a reasonable price. I know something better is coming from either AMD or Nvidia (or both), but I'm rolling the dice on *when*. It's a calculated risk.
