AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

An 80CU RDNA2 part should easily be at least 20~30% faster than an RTX2080TI,assuming decent scaling,no clockspeed increase,no "IPC" increase, etc. But if it can't do that, something has gone wrong in the design, either it can't scale well,or AMD hasn't improved memory bandwidth utilisation at all.

Although this all assumes there is going to be an 80CU card at launch... which unless I’m mistaken is still only rumour?

That said I will be disappointed if they only manage a 3070 competitor. I’m hoping for them to match or even perhaps exceed 3080 in pure rasterisation performance with their top offering, not all that long to wait to find out now I suppose!

digital foundary's deep dive in to the Xbox series X Gearts 5 demo is telling enough.

It's almost telling us a story why DF got the exclusive Nvidia 3000 series demo...

A 52CU RDNA2 gpu, clocked at 1800mhz, with a ryzen2 cpu clocked at best 3.8ghz performed "very very similarly" to a 2080

You have to wonder if the DF info supplied to Nvidia helped them make the decision about the card naming/positioning this series. If they were pretty certain that the 3080 (as is named now) was going to be the equivalent of the 2080 Ti at a similar price, and the 3090 didn't exist other than being the RTX Titan MKII, but instead they've chosen to drop everything down to offset what they probably already know, the 3090 will be faster (10%?) but is priced at double the cost, leaving them the room to put something in the middle, if the 3080 gets beaten but with less VRAM, and still hold the performance crown.

It's like following invisible dots, trying to see the bigger picture. :)

I will be watching these cards carefully, I planned to upgrade to one of the new series of cards. But my old r390x died just that bit early than expected. I had to get a 590 to tie me over which was £135.
I hope team red brings it

From Steamhardware survey. While not the end all it's certainly the biggest platform on the PC for data collection. Interestingly and surprisingly, the 5700xt's install base is below a 2080ti even.

The only card AMD has is the old 570/580. This shows how much marketshare and generally associted minshare nvidia has. This is why many people are stating that if AMD does have something notable, start getting the info out early. Last week nvidia ate up all the news and they will next week also once reviews start rolling out.

*This* week should AMD's week to get some news out and draw some attention. Once ampere launches and people have cards in hand, reviewers start doing follow ups etc, AMD will struggle for attention. This is the perfect week to get attention.

Correct

There has also been talk on a higher clocked 72 CU part but imho that's not going to get the job done. Its also worth mentioning that true performance of the 3080 is also far from clear particularly when compared to a 2080Ti rather than a 2080, thats not to say its rubbish or anything but it might not be quite as fast as Nvidia is claiming/inferring.

Depends on how you read the figures. To me that looks like the massive proportion of 'buyers' are all using low end hardware: 1050, 1050ti, 1060 (~25%). If they were to upgrade it would probably be a waste in anything above a 3060 which isnt even out yet.

So by your account AMD shouldn't even both trying to have a high end contender? In business those low end sku's aren't high margin products and while it's great to make low end sku's from cut down silicon to get the volume out, the higher end flagships give you margin and mindshare.

What I see there is that every Turing card is higher on the list than just 1 main card from AMD. That's how much of an uphill battle they have. And we all know the bad rep (understandably) that turning cards have. Again, if AMD isn't using this week of quiet time to make some noise, they're wasting key time.

Yup my RTX 2080 is too slow for 4k/120hz on my 77'CX. Need faster!!
Jensen recommends you a RTX 3090 :D

There's still a couple weeks yet before anybody can buy a 3080. But I do agree that the longer we don't hear anything from AMD, people will become happier with their decision to buy nV.

And if AMD releases some info at the 11th hour, maybe people won't care at that point, and will just buy nV rather than wait any more. Because the actual AMD release will be later by a month or two than nV's cards.

Yeah, they need to release info out next week sometime imo. Let’s see how it goes.

Surely it's fair to assume at this point, with this level of silence, that AMD have nothing to offer?

Surely if AMD have a card capable of beating the 3070, 3080 and matching the 3090, they would be throwing it in everyone's faces right now to persuade people not to buy Nvidia?
