AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

I’m being slightly facetious because we did all know it was coming, but of course no one knew the exact date. Did no one lose their **** when Nvidia did an announcement of their announcement?
We had a good idea about what was coming after all the leaks and rumours - 3090, 3080, 3070

AMD - a bicycle and........

That's some weird logic you got going on there. Why are you even in this thread? Clearly there is nothing AMD can ever do that will be acceptable in your mind.

You and all the rest of Jensen shill bots in this thread should just go and buy your 3080 with 10gb(snigger) of vram. Knowing nvidias track record though it'll just be replaced in a few months with a new one with appropriate vram capacity for its targetted resolution, so good luck with that.

Anyone who is having a mad cry about AMD being late or whatever other nonsense, go and buy a 3080. AMD does not give two ***** about you, i promise. They are about to have the most successful CPU of many many years, they will make hundreds of millions on console sales, their GPUs are about to give all NVIDIA morons buyers remorse. If you can't wait an extra fee weeks too fucken bad. Go back to the ampere thread
Whose alt account is this... very tedious. At the very least could you stop murdering the English language in your trolling?

We don’t know how good it is. It might well be superior to a 3080, for less money. And they might even get close to a 3090 for £1000.

It’s longer than we hoped but you have to remember they are releasing gpu’s, cpu’s AND consoles. That’s a lot of work

Good things are coming from AMD. They will deliver. For all we know, they may be stockpiling stock to allow good availability

People who are going nvidia had already decided. Amd weren't going to change their mind.

Those of us with a bit of self control will just wait until both offerings are available and buy whatever seems most suitable.

The only time to be even slightly disappointed is if Cyberpunk and ac valhalla etc end up being released beforehand. As long as both cards are out in time for new games with consoles then what's the big deal?

It's never caused me an issue in any game that I play and for rendering or specific workload open cl compute its a monster where nothing in the consumer space can really touch it. It's the best general purpose open cl gpu money can buy right now unless you are working with cuda specific loads. To demonstrate some of what it can do here are a few graphs shamelessly stolen from the internet:

It's also a single precision FFT monster, again none of this directly translates to it's gaming performance but as I said it's an Instinct MI50 core so there are things where it really shines.

Whenever i look at FP 64, only matrix inversions come to my mind... maybe insurance companies would be also using it to invert tail probabilities they like to talk about 99.9999...% VaRs ..

Yes those numbers do look good though, had no idea this was useful in rendering as well. It does look like a monster card for those workloads.. I only feel bad cuz they could have aimed double the die size... maybe a 20 billion transistor part to give Nvidia serious trouble.. but no, they preferred to squander away the 7nm lead for lack of ambition

My personal opinion that with Cyberpunk being *the* game, everything is pretty much geared up to its release.
New GPU's, new consoles and all that.

They'll all be available before it.

I'll be trying to get a 3080 on launch, but I have to ask why people are losing their minds with regard to AMD's timing?

People seem to be acting like you're either first out or you're dead. I haven't been able to find numbers but I assume that most (90% +) 1080TI sales came after the initial launch window? Considering the price of the card and inevitable supply issues. I don't see how it's any different now, if anything the situation is worse with people out of work in the millions and general COVID issues.

You let nVidia launch their cards first then you position yourself accordingly. The hype is stupid at the moment anyway, AMD could say they're 20% faster than nVidia and it wouldn't matter a ****. No need to rush.

There's an element of truth that a certain number of people really didn't put up much of a fight when Jensen fluttered his eyebrows at them ;)

But there's also a lot of history of AMD in recent years over-promising/hyping and delivering damp squibs.

I think for some it's not so much Jensen being their knight in shining armour, but rather having completely depleted faith in AMD to deliver something of comparable quality.

Yes there might be certain amount of impatience amongst some.

But I think AMD's impressively poor marketing over many years and poor track record in recent years when it comes to being competitive... people remember this and expectation from AMD is probably at an all-time low, really.

all amd need to do is a quick 2 min doom eternal gameplay video at 4k. if it matches or beats a 3080 people will wait. its that simple.

now as for why they arnt doing this is anyone's guess for now. but its so damned annoying that this one single thing could scupper nvidias launch and encourage people to wait that bit longer.

I think TheFuryOn might have a contender for the cooler king role if this continues.. :D
I'm actually beyond giving a **** tbh. I can't afford to buy anything so my interest is purely technical and watching new things play out. The only thing that's likely to make me pop are some of these new posters that have popped up recently with sub 500 post counts on 10+ year old accounts throwing inflammatory and trolling ******** around. So I'm likely unsubbing from this and the Ryzen thread again because I'm just not in the mood to see idiots and children spam up the place unchallenged.

I'm betting on 3070 performance which is fine but it needs to be a fair bit cheaper as Nvidia does win in the software suite and software integration department, Especially DLSS2, That thing is pure voodoo.

Yeah I can wait for navi but im also tempted to PS5 keeping the options open.

I'll be honest.. I'm expecting whatever AMD's halo card is to beat the 3080 in rasterisation and possibly even dxr - on the base level.. As you mention, nVidia's trump card is DLSS - which AMD needs an answer to. In titles that support DLSS (and if the rumours regarding DLSS 3.0 are true that's gonna be virtually every game) I expect the 3080 to be notably ahead...

Exactly, I mean look at that awful Ryzen thing. After many years of failing to compete, consumers were right to ignore it and stick with Intel :p

Seems a bit premature to right off AMD in the GPU space until we see what they have. I'm willing to wait to make sure I'm not wasting money on an impulsive purchase that might leave me disappointed :D

Funny that. I already got a warning an hour back and seen plenty of trolling.

They had superstar Jim Keller working on Ryzen, tho.

The guy who turns everything he touches to solid gold.

Not sure you could say the same thing about Raja Koduri :p
