AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

Whatever people’s opinions, I think it would be hasty to not at least wait for AMD. If it doesn’t deliver, you can go to NVIDIA, as will I. But it’s always good practice to see all the competition before parting with money

AMD could well deliver big, and then the 3080 may not look such a good deal.

I’m equally excited for Zen 3 really

Am gonna guess we're gonna start seeing purposely leaked info from now on over the next 7 weeks. Also, in this time frame we get to see the actual performance improvements from Amphere vs what Nvidia actually claim - the hype will have died down and then its time for AMD to say hi.

Gonna be fun :)

There are 2 paths that I see

a. Building a system from scratch: Yes wait. No option really

b. Retrofits: That may potentially result in straight 25% depreciation out of the box.. if somehow the wait extends to 4 or 5 months. You may as well skip the generation if you end up deciding that 3080 is a superior choice after that

Having said that, a month's wait doesn't look like a big deal to me but after that you got to act quick, if the event turns out to be a slideshow

I think the problem is that they want to give just enough info to keep us waiting but not enough that Nvidia could use it to counter their stuff.

AMD are between a rock and a hard place, but Nvidia took a risk of their own by going first and putting some cards on the table.

AMD needs to make their case if they have one.

What? so that was it? A cryptic "Tomorrow" message for a tweet telling us "more stuff on October 8 and 28", is that going to be another tweet telling us about the next tweet after that?

Maybe he isn't allowed to release stuff like that until someone higher had OK'd the communication.

It's guaranteed we will see leaks to put pressure on Nvidia. I'm expecting a Navi2 teaser in the Zen3 presentation. Not long to go.

POSTED BY PLISKIN on othe thread could this be what AMD are now up against> Once again taking with a pinch of salt, however...

Well this guy was close but assumed the 3080 would be ~10% faster. That will teach him to give Nvidia the benefit of the doubt with their marketing BS. :)

Indeed. We'll see the leaks going forward from now on, and it will build up and up.

What you lot forget is no one knew when the nvidia cards were going to be announced, or when they were out until closer to the date. Amd didn't either, their dates were always going to be October if you read back months ago into leaked days.
Before the consoles they said.
Consoles leaks said around November.
Its not a suprise

says 'leadership performance', i think they added the word performance to avoid anyone slating them for leadership in carp cooling / heat etc

I have seen hundreds of acquisition targets, from $1 million to $1 billion in revenues, introduce them as "leaders".. kinda tuned that out of my system.. i can only advise to look at it as not more than a marketing jargon

I’m being slightly facetious because we did all know it was coming, but of course no one knew the exact date. Did no one lose their **** when Nvidia did an announcement of their announcement?
cos they were first out the door, it was the start of the new gen with no competition. AMD are competing with a 3080 in just over 1week.

all AMD's announcement says to me is "we ain't bovered aka not ***** given about selling lots of dGPU cos our CPU/APU business is doin gud"

In the GPU space? Those words don't belong together :p

Pulling part of an entire paragraph then using it out of context, how OCUK! You'll be writing for the daily fail next. ;)

You have to to wonder just how much wafer space they've got though, I'd rather have CPU's than GPU's tbh, but that is me being selfish for business reasons. :)

Let's just see how availability goes. Honestly I don't understand the NOW NOW NOW attitude. If AMD announces their cards and they are competitive then hooray for everyone, if they announce them and are not competitive then you get Ampere a month later than you would have.

What is the major problem?

Because I have a feeling by that time, Ampere will be totally sold out and/or price gouged to the extremes, so it won't be "just" waiting a month, it'll be waiting until well into next year - all time in which you could have had a faster card, but ended up pinning your hopes of something better on a company that in recent history has failed to deliver (on the GPU front that is)

So on the 8th Oct, we get to see Zen 3 and I assume AMD will show off a ton of performance benchmarks, including gaming performance. What do we thing they will use as GPUs for these demos? I'm willing to bet it will be RDNA2 :D

Probably a 3080 :P - Thats why the announcement is on the 8th of October - they were waiting for the 3000 series to release :D

Its still not hard to respond with a youtube video/announcement on pricing, performance etc.

8/10/20 isn't that much of a wait tho... still will lose a small chunk of people to NVIDIA but oh well.

all amd need to do is a quick 2 min doom eternal gameplay video at 4k. if it matches or beats a 3080 people will wait. its that simple.

now as for why they arnt doing this is anyone's guess for now. but its so damned annoying that this one single thing could scupper nvidias launch and encourage people to wait that bit longer.

It real is that simple
