No who cares how much better it is than the 5700xt? It needs to be better than the Nvidia, not better than it's previous card. It's like buying a Corsa because it's 60% faster than a Corsa even though the Fiesta is 40% faster than it and the same price. It's irrelevant how much faster it is than the previous Corsa if the Fiesta is beating it.
You don't buy something compared to something else that has no relevance.
Ok:
It really doesn't need to perform better than Nvidia, it just needs to hit a better price/performance ratio. If they bring a 2080ti performance level card at £350ish they'll sell a shedload.
It doesnt even need to be better than nvidia if your going to buy nvidia anyway Begbie. I dont care what you buy!
Not everything is about nvidia. I was never going to buy the 3080 because I simply need more performance and VRAM without the extortionate price of the 3090.
Exactly.
I've traditionally been a Radeon buyer as they've always provided more for the money, so to speak, and the cards have always fit in to my budget. I'm expecting a card that may trade blows with the 3070 at a better price point but who knows? I'm not in the market for a new GPU yet.
My point to Begbie (that he's missing) is if its 60% better than a 5700XT, you will know if its gonna trade blows 3070/3080. The whole point in basing it on that (5700XT) is AMD said its +50% better than RDNA1.
same goes for nvidas numbers as well all we know for now is a 3070 is supposed to be faster than a 2080ti by how much thats debatable. as you cant even make guesses at if amd's cards can beat nvidias if we dont even know exactly how nvidias will actually perform.
Precisely, the claims are pointless as even though nvidia has 'released' their cards we still do not know if the 3070 actually beats the 2080Ti yet from the original claims that it does. What we do know from existing benchmarks is in what games a 2080ti beats a 5700XT by.
