Who cares, it's a "halo" product that won't sell all that many comparatively.
ITs About Showing of BRAND power notmabout sales. NV just goes BIG mode.
Here we can make this monster card for 1.5k and its fastes and competition CANT do it cause they are crap :D You get the idea ??

They done it with Zen2 remember that ??

Thats how you go BIG dick and hype people for product i could not wait to upgrade Zen+ to Zen2 after that !!!

And what AMD done ?? Showed a freaking bike....B I K E !!! WTF

The 3090 is a 3080 +25% for £1500, its such an open goal.

Nvidia are saying AMD can't get close to it, so £1500, are they right?

Probably not, so don't make many of them, but do send them to reviewers to get them on bar charts. If you don't sell many don't make many, no harm done, if you do sell many its a win.
I doubt the 3090 will be 25% when the 3080 is only 25% faster than a 3070 with a big jump in shaders, power and only GDDR6. My guess is it will be around 15% at most in games.

It doesn't matter in the slightest. It's at a price level that makes it niche for the most part. Yeah it might make for a cute tech demo but that's about it.

I get the feeling we are talking about different things here, my proposal is AMD are settling for mediocre for misguided convenience, and this will not improve their reputation or mindshare.

This guy gets it. I'm glad i'm not alone.

I think the problem is, AMD are looking at it from a sales/finance perspective. Only 1% buy high end cards like the 2080 Ti so lets not waste our time. Most buy from the low end up to the 2070 so lets concentrate on that.

The problem with that approach is that the consumer falls head over heals for marketing. Nvidia has the winning high end card so the consumer chooses Nvidia for their low end card. It's no different from the consumer buying a pair of Puma trainers because Usain Bolt wore Puma when he won gold. Brands pay a fortune to appear on winning F1 cars because consumers like to buy from winning brands, even if it's not a winning product. It doesn't matter that AMD has the best low end cards because the consumer is won over by the brand with the fastest halo card.

AMD needs to look at this from a marketing perspective and release a halo product that matches the 3090 in performance (not necessarily in price). That will be a marketing investment to get sales at the lower end.

BTW that video is worth watching, AMD know how to Big Dick wave just as well as Nvidia, take note RTG Group.

You too, thank you.

I know exactly what you're going on about, AMD in the past have had gpu's for over a grand and they had to drop the price fairly quickly, 7990 and 295x2. Both were top end performers but with how quickly they dropped their pricing it would seem that the market for them at that initial price simply wasn't there. It's not an area of the market they seem to be concerned with, and past experience would say they would be right to not bother.

295x2 was a pretty good card, 7990 was a trainwreck.

Maybe AMD will release a 120 CU monster that eats 450w has 24gb HBM2, hits 2200boost and costs 2K... Now that really would be something even if just a limited run.

If Ya manage tio load up MORE than 10gn of Vram then yes. Tested how fps drops 2 **** when you overfill memory.

There is a different way to do it, get the card to reviewers, make a few, not many, put them on sale, if they don't sell don't make anymore.

This is EXACTLY what Nvidia will do with the 3090.

Its like kidz be like. HAHA this guy got AMD cause is poot. As Atm GPU's are considered a Poot mans option.

Ye lisa came out and was like look thats Intel This is what we are working on and its Faster and not even finished product. Thats how ya do it.

Pretty sure it's just not as simple as "make a few of these to see if they sell or not". As for the NVIDIA side, they're basically like Apple in showing people will pay ridiculous prices for their products, so the 3090 will in no way be a short term card.
