Just been shoved on British Gas Variable so probably time to move. What's the deal with smart meters if you change company? Currently have a British gas one installed. I assume they are only good for the company that supplied it

Depends on the meter, it could either go back to a dumb meter or carry forward it’s smart functions.

It doesn’t really matter, just switch anyway.

My older smart meters don't work with new providers but the in home display still works so I can at least read them remotely.

Agreed about switching anyway smart meters or not, personally think they are a bit of a waste of time but the real time readings can be handy.

I have received an email from Bulb about rates going up

So we have to increase our electricity prices. This means your energy will cost about £7.88 more each month.

Our electricity day rate will increase from 15.849p to 17.338p per kWh. Our electricity night rate will increase from 8.652p to 9.852p per kWh. And we’re increasing our electricity standing charge from 22.626p to 23.192p per day. These numbers all include VAT.

We'll increase your payments to £107.93 each month
We think you need to increase your payments because they're lower than the cost of the energy you use each month and your account is in debit. This means you’ll go even further into debit over the winter as you use more energy during the colder months.

Based on your historical usage, we think you will use £90.29 of energy each month, but your current payments of £48.15 won’t cover that. Your account was £22.81 in debit at your last statement, and based on your usage you should have £83.03 of credit at this time of year to cover your higher usage during winter.

So, what do other pay for electric rates. Almost £110/month for an electric only 2 bed flat seems ridiculous

I just got an email through today saying my DD is going up from 90 to 110 per month. It went up in March from 60 to 90. Its ridiculous. I live in a 3 bed house and I am away 6 months of the year so I really don't understand. Even when I'm home its just water really. Can't even remember last time I had the heating on. Think its time to leave scottish power

Scottish power were even worse that Bulb for me. Do you know what the SP rates are? day / night / standing?

Do you have those stupid electric heaters? They cost a fortune to run.

Scottish Power rates vary depending on what ‘deal’ you are on.

All electric flat. Wall heaters are electric panel heaters but we have not turned them on in over a year.
I was hoovering up electric with water heating for crazy hours. This is now sorted though

Dual tariff with outfox the market, pay 12.34p per kwh electricity, and it's all renewable. Gas is very cheap too. Been talking to quite a few solar panel fitters recently, and they've all been quite surprised at how cheap it is.
